Worst night ever

Hi all,

I've been up all night so bear with me. My couple of days in the hospital went great, my surgery went great. But my first night home, I've been dealing with just a ton of pain. Today was the first day I've been able to rid myself of any "surgery gas". When it starts coming down and traveling through my intestines...I seriously start crying the pain is so bad. The pain was so bad that I Was sweating and having tachycardia. I called my surgeon and they suggested that, while some of this is normal, I go to the ER just to make sure. So I did-everything looks fairy normal except theres still gas to pass.I also got an enema to move things along.

I've also been feeling a lot of pain from taking my meds and don't know how to work around this. I feel so overwhelmed that I regret my decision in the moment.

Does this get better? Did any one else experience severe pain and get through it ok?

It does often get better, but its good that your team suggested going to the ER to be safe and sure about the problem. Were you prescribed any anti-gas meds?

Try crushing your tablet meds (if allowed) into a fine powder and adding it to 30 ml of Water (mix very well). liquid meds can be easier on the system.

Good Luck and speedy recovery ❤

1st Congratulations on making this decision for yourself, it's not easy and takes a lot of mental strength, so good for you.

This happened to me. WALK ALOT and make sure you crush all pills and Vitamins until you reach week 4 or 5 post-op. LOTS of Water, drink it SLOW. Drinking water too fast trapped gas for me and I had to walk to get it out, it was not pleasant.

The pain is real! I was 2 seconds away from going to the ER myself. As you move into the pureed food stage, same thing eat slow, cuz if you think the gas hurts in the liquid stage imagine gas stuck with a soft food in your new little stomach.

Anyways...You got this! ;)

I was the same way.. So comfortable and pain-free in the hospital getting morphine every 2 hours... Then I got home and once the last dose of morphine wore off -- I was in a lot of pain, but it only lasted a few days. Days 3 and 4 were the worst for me. I also regretted it on day 3 & 4... but every day - my pain lessened. Just trust the process -- everything will get easier with time. Just take things slow and be gentle with your body... it is mad at you right now for putting it through this... but things will calm down. I promise!

Keep us updated and good luck! You got this!

Thanks all for your response!

A quick update: doing better. Once I got past that first night and a slight crying episode on the phone with the surgeon's nurse (I regret nothing), I've been keeping everything in stride. I'm a strictly liquid diet which has worked wonders and, knock on wood, seems to have given things time to heal.

Thanks all for your support-sometimes those little reassurances give us an edge during hard times.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
