So I was sleeved on the 14th and from the start have had terrible incision pain on my right side. After a couple of days it seemed to have gotten better, but for the last two days I have cried from the pain. Even burning pain in my belly button. The incisions look good and I don't have a fever on anything. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do besides walking and pain meds? Is there a reason some people seem to heal so quickly? Does it depend on your surgeon's instruments? Thank you for your help in advance.

Ring your surgeon or go to your nearest hospital. You shouldn’t be experiencing this sort of pain.

Good luck.

I agree pain that is making you cry needs a call to the doctor.

I was in that much pain and I’m a month out and doing great! A call to your surgeon though is very important!

I believe the amount of incision pain mostly depends on what they have to extract. In my case, they took out my gallbladder and the surgeon said he had to cut one larger incision to take it out. This was the one incision that hurt the most and for the longest time. They cut muscle tissue so it takes a while to heal. All in all, I didn't have much pain and only took pain medicine at home one time. Within 5 days post op, I had no discomfort.

How are you doing without your gall bladder? I have to have mine taken out after having several attacks...and those are truly the most painfull things on the planet to have😰 The only reason I held back on this is because I don't know what living without it will be.

Not California Guy, but I had to have my gall bladder removed a year after VSG. I don't even know it's gone.

My gallbladder was removed as a preventative measure before getting my duodenal switch in May. From the research I've done, a common complication from getting the duodenal switch is gallstones. This complication is common for patients with rapid weight loss or restrictive diets. If you take the gallbladder out before gallstones develop, you save a lot of pain and drama. I didn't have gallstones but I did have an unhealthy gallbladder and a restricted common bile duct. Fortunately, They resolved the bile duct issue in a separate procedure after the gall bladder removal and before the duodenal switch surgery. These surgeries and a hiatal hernia repair were all done in the same week.

I'm feeling great. I recovered quickly. I've lost weight at a rapid pace, 86 lbs. this year so far.

Incision pain is much better now. It still hurts where the big incision is but not to that point anymore. Belly button still burns at night for some reason. I have by two week appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday. Btw how long before liquids stop causing gas pains when they go down? It's like I sip, then automatically get gas pains in my chest, stomach and back. Then I burp and am alright. Makes be not want to drink.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
