Bariatric surgery combined with another procedure

Recommended Posts

I just wanna know if anybody has had very bariatric surgery at the same time as another procedure? I know people will sometimes say they are having abdominal surgery or gallbladder surgery when they're really having weight loss surgery. I need a thumb joint replacement and the recovery time would be close to 3 months and I can't help but think that I should really consider bariatric surgery at the same time.

I would think those having gall bladder or hernia repair surgery at the same time would have the same surgeon, whereas thumb joint replacement would require a different surgeon I am guessing.

Wouldn't hurt to ask though, they may be able to co-ordinate something if the surgeries are compatible .

Even if you had to do 2 different surgeons, it sure would be great to use the same time off work for both. Do you have help at home if it's hard to prepare your meals/etc after surgery?

I had a sleeve and hernia repair done and then 45 days later had hardware removed from my knee.

I would have the one that takes the longest to recover from first and then do the next one while still on leave. My bariatric surgeon wanted to wait 6 weeks after hardware removal to do my sleeve but I was able to reschedule the hardware to later as the recovery time for that was only a couple weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
