I know fasting is the hot new trend in weight loss but is it safe for folks that have been sleeved? I want to try it out but I can find any clear answers.

It is safe. You should be good to go, but always good to double check with your team!

I'm sleeved and I do it. I don't have my first meal until 10 am (protein shake), a small meal at noon, a Jello cup at 2 pm, another shake at 4 pm and my dinner @ 6 pm. Then I really don't have anything after six. Sometimes a 15 calorie sugar free popsicle or two as needed.

I inadvertently started doing it around 3-4 months post op as I hated eating in the morning (i was never a Breakfast eater, even pre-op). Around this time I was able to eat more at a sitting, so i didn’t need all day to get my food in anymore.

I implemented a no eating after 7pm also, so ended up with a 6-7 hr-ish eating window.

I still eat this way today most days.

I've done it while in maintenance, but not while I was in weight loss mode. Clear it with your team first. They might want to you get a good dose of Protein every few hours, and doing IF might interfere with that.

Portion sizes must be big enough to meet nutritional needs during the feeding window. Early out that's most likely going to be a problem.

You first have to define what YOU mean by intermittent fasting.

Do you mean time restricted feeding where you still eat each day but within a small time window of 6 - 8 hours?

Do you mean Water fast only beyond 24 - 48 hours? or a 5 day eating/2 day fasting schedule? These are all very different beasts with very different considerations.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
