Hi. Having a sleeve in a couple of weeks. I have read a lot in the past year. I live alone and am interested if you can help me out with any thoughts you have on your favourite post surgery foods that would be good. Also your thoughts on when you can start a fairly vigorous walking regime. Thanks All.

So I was sleeved exactly 2 weeks ago and many of the things I bought in preparation have gone untouched or I just dont like them anymore. You'll read that many peoples taste preferences change, that may not happen to you, but there is no point in buying a heap of stuff until you know you can tolerate it or like.

There are of course a few staples that most people do ok with aside from a Protein Shake, a good quality Bone Broth would be next on my list for the first week or so. Yogurt is another, cottage cheese... then eggs as we progress... I skipped the whole jello/pudding fiasco since I'm not a fan of encouraging a sweet tooth (thats not to say it wont work for you.)

Brisk walking was not a problem for me even 3 or 4 days out. Jogging on the other hand is not on the horizon for me anytime soon. I suspect this is going to be dictated more by the incisions rather than the sleeve since those are felt with any movement far more than your sleeve is.

Biggest problem for me has been getting a good nights sleep, I have insomnia at the best of times and always sleep on my side. Some can do that very early on, for me I get a weird pulling sensation when on my side.

Best of luck.

sugar free popsicles. It helps you get liquids in.

Thank you guys for responding! I was thinking about the broth and popsicles. Went out yesterday and bought the popsicle moulds and some Chrystal Light lime. Cleaning out the fridge today! Tuesday start a two week fast. Thanks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
