HEY Y'all!-Fellow Cysters(PCOS) 911!!

Recommended Posts

Me again!! Hey y'all!! I just had the 2nd well actually the first meeting with the surgeon that will be doing my surgery!! The first surgeon I met with he told me that there will be a 6 month wait for surgery if I used him. And I am so not trying to hear that!! I found another surgeon and I kinda like him better anyway!! HE answered all my questions I didn't feel as rushed as I did with the other surgeon. I am so excited! The said I just have to complete 3 appointments which is the psych eval, lung clearance, and heart clearance. And I should be approved. The girl Tina who submits all the insurance paper work said that I chose the best insurance for the new year and that they also approve as long as the BMI is over 40! Mine is 50!! Good and bad thing all wrapped into 1. But my husband may be going off to Kuwait or Iraq in March... I am sad but at the same time when my baby gets home he will have one sexy ass wife on his arm!! Cause he is so sexy and physcially fit cause he is in the military and they work out everyday LOL!! 5 mile run a day I would look good too. But he loves me no matter what and he has been very supportive through out this whole process. But he has already warned me that when he gets back from over seas he wants a baby. And I DEFINETELY want to be a healthier woman before I bring my children into the world and. Next month (DEC 26th) is my 20th B-Day!! And I want to start the new decade of right. Unfortunetely I have been overweight all my life. And growing up in a home where we didn't always have food and lots of money so when we did have it my mom always told said to me and my siblings "clean your plate"... And no I live by that rule LOL!! I have some type of issue with throwing food away. I over eat all the time. And with this tool hopefully that will cease to exist. But I am completely all my appts the month of Dec and Tina told me that she can submit everything January 1st!!! She said approvals with my insurance (Amerihealth 1st of the year) typically take 1-5 business days alot of times sooner. But at my young age and a BMI of 50 is dangerous the surgeon said so I shouldn't have any problems. So Tina said I should have a surgery date by the end of January!! I am so excited! But I do have to attend the support groups. 1 each month before sugery (mandatory) and after (highly reccomended) Than before surgery I have to be on a 3-4 week pre-op diet that isn't covered by health insurance and it cost 250 dollars out of pocket. Which is fine cause also being the smart chick that I am I got a flexible spending acct for the beginning of the year which is worth 1500 bucks just in case I have to pay any additional charges or anything and I know I wouldn't have had that kinda money out of pocket right away. But I am sooo happy and hope things work for me. I am so afraid of not liking the band or it not "agreeing" with my body. I don't want that to happen. I am fearing what will happen to me if this doesn't work for me. What will I turn to then. I don't wanna fail at this. But also to you PCOS people ... my fellow cysters how are you doing with your band... the doc mention that with PCOS gastric bypass may be better for people with PCOS but he said that he wasn't sure and that he would have to read some more into it and get back to me. I go to see the specialist on the 6th for the PCOS ... maybe he will put me on meds I am not sure. But thanks for listening everyone and lots of love and postivity to all!! Now show me some love back thanks!! And remeber support our troops!! Apples!!:(

Hey Apples! Congrats on your surgery coming up. I have PCOS as well and the band has really helped me. I don't think that Gastric Bypass is any better than the band for people with PCOS, IMO. Chickie may be able to tell you more about PCOS and losing weight with the band. (I hope you don't mind me sharing this, Chickie). She posted on the PCOS thread that since losing the weight, a lot of her PCOS symptoms have subsided or gotten better. Look at her results........ nothing short of amazing! So, I believe that women with PCOS can lose weight with the band just as well as Bypass patients. Good luck and I wish you well.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
