I can’t stop thinking about Food!

Recommended Posts

I’m only 3 days post op and I can’t stop thinking about food! I had the gastric bypass and yes I am in a lot of pain, but I keep thinking about food that I want to eat! Why is this happening?!

The same happened to me. I'm sure to lots of people. But honestly once you eat something you been thinking about you'll realize its not as good as you think it would be, your tastes will change, it might even make you sick or nauseous.

I'm 2 months out and I don't get sick or anything but I get no pleasure from eating. I just do it to get my Protein in.

Same thing with me. I spent weeks after surgery thinking about food and feeling sorry for myself thinking I could never eat “normal” again. It’s like a break up with food. I wish I would of had someone tell me it passes and things get better. For now, just take it day by day. Your though patterns will change. Just give yourself grace and time. ❤️

Make sure you have plenty to distract yourself.

Get some walking in to help with the gas, do some reading, watch some shows, do some puzzles and if you are into arts and crafts I am sure you'd love to give them a go.

Nefertari, My heart goes out to you because I remember that short phase. If Winston were here he’d assure you that a great part of that, is head hunger. Some debate it, but for me, there was certain truth to it. Watch for a guy named Winston and honey watch out😉, he pulls no punches but/and he’s usually spot on.

Earth to Winston, Earth to Winston, can you hear us Winston? Please come in.

Over and out for now.

Everyone with almost no food intake thinks about food all the time. It's pretty normal.

I am coming up on 3 months out, and I also thought about food all the time during that first few weeks. I still think about food a lot! It's hard work to get my Protein in 🙂 I am NOT one of the people who does not like food; I still very much like food, and I have been enjoying making different meals my family can enjoy with me. You just had a major surgery to change the way you eat, you are living on liquids, you are in pain, you are stuck home in the middle of a world wide pandemic....of course you are thinking about food. Hang in there, it does actually all get better! (for the vast majority of us....).

I stopped thinking about food all the time at the 1 month mark...I did absolutely no diet modifications or effort to lose weight right before surgery. I think that has something to do with it taking a whole month to subside.

I think about food all the time (and I'm 1.5 years out). I love looking at pictures of it, cooking it, reading recipes, smelling it, watching other people eat it, watching cooking/baking shows...lol

...I just don't eat as much of it as I used to.

You may find that yeah, you think about it all the time, but when you do eat, you may not get the same satisfaction from doing so as you once did, and Pavlov yourself into a new way of eating...?

I feel this with me as well. I didn’t do a liquid diet. I didn’t prepare myself for the surgery. I’m ashamed to say it but the night before I had KFC chicken 😂 I did this to myself, but I’m get through it. I’m thinking about going to therapy.

Nefertari, You sound like a FUN and WISE person! You WILL get through this! I would have joined you at KFC night before surgery if I could have.😂

But/and seriously...this website is a treasure trove of info to get and keep you “right”. Also, the book shown is only $13 something on Amazon and will also help you. Stay with us!!

I’m 7 days post-op and I’m the same way. My Uncle forgot I couldn’t eat just yet so he made a bacon Breakfast sandwich. I wanted to cry in the car lol

The first week or two will be like that. I cried the 4th day because I wanted to CHEW something. It goes away after a while. I promise, it’s worth it. You will be so much happier. I obsessed about food the whole first month. After that you forget that food exists and you actually need to set reminders on your phone because otherwise you’d faint from lack of food. I’m serious. It’ll get better. Don’t take one day at a time take one hour at a time. This too shall pass.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
