I was curious of what the pre operation tests entailed. I didn’t know if anyone had issues passing the labs and tests they ran, and if so why.

My operation is March 31st.

I've had the checks for the stomic ulcers. Had to blow in these little bags, then drink some horrific lemon tang tart junk, wait 15min and blow in some bags again.

Here local to me, they have a class BEGIN, that has to be taken and passed. And then there is a multiple chose test the doctor gives. Because they need to see in writing that you have listened and understand everything.

Then theres the EKG and the leg/vein tests I had to do.

I still have blood work to be done and 1 more pre op check 2 weeks before operation, along with another EKG and Vein test.

Mainly the tests are to see -if- there is any issues they are aware of, before you get poked. So they can have meds started for them, or the doctors are aware (like the leg vein issue) so they take extra care while your in the hospital.

These are just for the doctor I am going too. Other doctors in the same office had other tests their patients had to do. Depending on the doctors office, you can ask for a list of things they check for. So if your 6 months to a year out, your family doctor maybe able to start checking on these things, so if there is an issue, its caught now, and not 2 weeks before operation. :)

I had blood tests, an EKG, a sleep study, and a nuclear stress test (because I was over 50). I had the bypass. If I'd wanted a sleeve, I would have also needed an upper endoscopy (some surgeons require that regardless of surgery). A lot of us also have to take psychological "tests" online...and then meet with a psychologist.

My gastric bypass is 3/11/20. Testing began last October: EKG, Cardiac Stress Test (I’m over 60), Echocardiogram, Gall Bladder Ultrasound, Upper GI, Psych Eval, Bloodwork, 3 Months of Dr. Supervised Diet.

Granted, it was a LOT, and sometimes time consuming, but SO reassured to know my surgeon is thorough, and I’m going into this with a clean bill of health. I, too, wondered (feared) I may not pass one of these tests and be rejected, but quickly decided Hey Wait! What a blessing and RARE opportunity to get all of this baseline testing BEFORE a problem became evident! In our medical system, tests are only approved once a problem has manifested itself which can sometimes be too late!😪

Thus, I decided no matter the outcome, I WON either way! I walked forward in Gratitude of all that was being done on my behalf, willing to accept whatever outcome presented and make the BEST decision at each juncture. It all went fine and it also made the past 6 months FLY BY because I was joyfully knocking out one test at a time!😀

Stay positive! Live in Gratitude every day and WATCH the Blessings unfold!

I am still pre-op but so far I have had labs, nutritionist visits, upper endoscopy, exercise evaluation, psychiatric evaluation, I am scheduled for my pre-op class next week. It seems like every doctor is different just go with the flow and do what is needed. Some of my labs came back outside of the normal ranges but they were mostly Vitamin levels.

It is a bit different here in Denmark since we don't have insurance requirements, but the program itself still has prerequisites. I can share what I have needed to do this far. Keep in mind that I am still pre-op, though!

First thing I needed to do was get my starting weight logged. After that, I needed to get an EKG, blood work, and give a stool sample. I am expected to lose 8-12% of my starting weight or more and maintain that up to the date of surgery. I still have to meet with my dietitian and have a 1 on 1 patient seminar (due to me not being a native and not being fluent in the language). I was told to just call in once I met the weight requirements and they would schedule a surgery.

I did call and get weighed at the clinic, but have not got a date yet. I assume this is because I still need to meet with my dietitian and have my 1 on 1 meeting, though. However, they may want my dietitian to monitor my weight for a while prior. I can certainly keep you updated! My meeting with the dietitian is on the 18th. Wish me luck! :P

My insurance required 90 day weight management program with a doctor. Didn't have to lose weight, but couldn't gain any weight. For pre-op testing I had bloodwork, EKG, sonogram of my gallbladder, and EGD. I also had psychological evaluation, pre-op class and meet with nutritionist. You can't really "faiil" any test, but the tests may uncover some things that need to be taken care of prior to surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
