Mentally preparing for surgery

Recommended Posts

I am seeking advise on mentally and physically preparing for surgery. I’m about 5-6 weeks away from revising from a sleeve to a LOOP DS and feel that last time going in I was mentally prepared I was losing weight and in control.

This time for insurance purposes I haven’t lost weight and while I haven’t been binge eating I can’t seem to do the 2 shakes a day light dinner thing I’ve been trying to do (my idea not my doctors suggestion). I want to give myself the best chance at losing the 55-60.

I go between thinking I’m ok the surgery is going to help me dont panic if you eat 1800 cals a day to you must only drink Protein Shakes and eat under 1000 or you won’t be successful.

I do have a therapist and I am truly trying to figure out my head. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

the "only drink Protein Shakes and eat under 1000 or you won't be successful" part is pretty temporary. I was allowed to start on purees as soon as I got home from the hospital. For those who have to stick to Protein shakes and fluids after surgery, that lasts maybe a couple of weeks. I did keep under 1000 kcal for a few months after surgery, but then, I was never hungry and my stomach was tiny then, so I really didn't want any more than that. You may be able to eat more than that with the loop DS since you'll have the malabsorption factor. But either way, at some point you'll be able to eat more than 1000 calories.

I am now 10 days post op and I am down 16lbs. I had an allergic reaction to the glue my doctor used so I am still sore and trying to keep moving to not get stiff.

Hello,  I am brand new on here.
The doctor qualified me yesterday for the surgery, so now I have to take 12 weeks of education classes and then he said they will schedule the surgery 4-6 weeks after I complete the classes.
I am excited to start this new journey.

Am at the half-way mark of the six month pre-op program.  So excited!  Got clearance from psychologist this morning, so I scheduled my surgery consult for early March.  It is becoming more real now.  Have lost 18 pounds so far, since I began this journey on 12/18/19.

So months ago, the Kid thought it would be funny to create an account on here and troll me with it.  Figured out it was her a few days later, and had a laugh about it.  She's been trolling me on it ever since.
This morning I went on to post something and realized after the fact that I posted using her account as she was on my laptop last night 🙄
      Trolling over, Kid.
