How long was it before you could get in your minimum amount of fluids? I was told 64oz minimum, but I'm not even quite two weeks post op and I am still struggling with this.

I've been barely getting 20-30oz some days, and have been feeling more and more like I'm getting dehydrated. I did what my surgeon told me to and went to the ER to get fluids through IV, but the doctor there refused to give me any. I'm annoyed and feel dry and haven't been doing really well, so now I'm trying to sip on some Powerade zero and hope for the best...

Anyone else have this problem?

I was drinking like 30 oz in week 1 and 60oz in week 2 but with bypass... Everyone is different though.

Water essentially flows through an empty stomach with little or no stop, directly into the intestines. I could drink water without hesitation, after I gave my sleeve a couple of weeks to heal. So just drink in small amounts , but drink 64 oz daily.

I am about two months out and it's still a struggle. I think I can do about 40 oz on a good day. I just keep the bottle with me and make a concerted effort to sip every single time I think about it.

To be honest, 40- 50 oz was the same amount I was drinking pre surgery.

My doctor said all liquids count including Protein Shakes, Protein Water, sugar free popsicles etc. Keep that in mind.

I sipped, sipped, sipped all day long. Your Protein Shakes count toward your liquid, so do sugar-free popsicles.

That's a problem, though. I haven't been able to get any Protein Shakes down in about a week. My doctor had me start soft foods early so I could get some Protein.

I did find some plant based protein Water, so I'm hoping that works, but I'm super intolerant to the whey protein.

I *did* figure out that my tap water and some of the bottled water we tried has a lot of minerals in it, which was causing some of my cramps that made it hard for me to drink. I've been able to drink Powerade zero and smartwater without too much trouble today, so I'm super hopeful. *fingers crossed*

You know what worked for me? And it’s completely controversial, but for me, using a straw worked wonders. I know doc said no straws because of gas, but I don’t seem to have that problem and drinking my Water with a straw helps me to get it down much easier.
Also, get yourself a good water bottle. My husband got me a hydroflask, and although it’s expensive, it’s been worth every single penny. It keeps your water cold with very little ice cubes for at least 24 hours. I got the straw lid and it’s been my best buddy. Intake it everywhere.
ps also, it doesn’t sweat so that’s also a big plus.

My doc and nutritionist dont have issues with the actual straw... there issue is people tend to use straws with drinks we ahoukd never have. They aren't so concerned with the gas unless the gas is an issue for you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
