My surgery date is 06/12/07. I was told to go on a special diet one week prior to surgery. The diet includes mostly cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, small portion of chicken breast or sole, vegetables and only use balsamic vinegar as dressing. Today I'm going to look for Protein Shakes and other food items for post op. I think I'll be ok on this diet. I really needed a life changing solution before it's too late. Glad I'm getting it done, just nervously hoping for a successful recovery and to real my weight loss goal. Good luck to all of you!

Hey Twigs,

Can totally relate, my op is on Monday so yesterday went out and bought Soups, drinks, Vitamins, pepermint tea and pain killers. Nerves are really starting to hit now.

Good luck for the 6th

Twigs,

I'm being banded on the 6th too. I've been doing the pre-op diet since the day after Thanksgiving. The first couple of days were hell but it's getting better every day.

I think my nerves are going to be in overdrive starting Monday. Now...their handleable (if that's even a word).

good luck to us next week!!

Twi

I started the pre-op two days after Thanksgiving and I agree, with each day it gets a little easier. The first couple of days I was s-t-a-r-v-i-n-g. It's tough going from 3,000-4,000 calories a day to roughly 1,000 or so. My doctor said I could have all the sugar-free popcicles and Jello I wanted and believe me, I took him up on the offer. I think I went through a 12-pack of those sugar-free popcicles the first two days (they have some cheap and tasty ones at Wal-Mart).

Today, things are going better. I wasn't stuffed by any means after lunch but I wasn't starving either. After four days it seems like I can start focusing on getting things done instead of simply sitting around wondering when my next meal time is.

Danna, You say you bought Peppermint tea. Was there any particular reason. Just curious if it makes nausea go away or something like that.

Apparently peppermint tea is good for gas and as they fill you with gas during the op I was advised to have some handy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
