I was 61 when I had RNY in 2018. Lost 100 lbs and now on maintenance. No problems so far other then loose skin and flat boobies 😂. Skin doesn’t bounce back like it use too! Hard on your face and neck as well, not complaining but I definitely feel I look older then when I had a fuller face! I’m hoping my older brother will do it as well... so unhealthy as you get older to carry all that weight........good luck!

I will still be 61 when I have my RNY March 17th, just a few days before my birthday. The skin and boobies issues are things I'm not looking forward to though...

I'm almost 64 and had lap band at age 52 in 2008 revision to RNY 2014 at age 58. I never reached goal :( but I am determined to get back on this horse and fight for more weight loss. Lowest I got was 219 from 289 and then over the last 5 yrs gained back 60 of those 70 lbs. I have recently been following low carb low fat diet for the last 2 months and have dropped 35+ lbs. Yeah me!!! My current weight is 232 lbs down from 269 in Dec 2019. My 1st goal is to get to AT LEAST 219 lb... another 13 lbs down (my previous low weight) THEN I want to continue on to reach my goal of 180. I'm sure that's possible..... isn't it??

I recall the oldest person in a lot of my classes when I was pre-op was 68 ..... so your being 65 is not too old at all.

Thanks so much Betty that does help me relax. Now, I just got to hope they don’t stop all unnecessary surgeries because of the Corona Virus. I guess what will be will be.. I just pray everyone gets well and it goes away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
