@Rolltide87I think I was pretty lucky with the recovery. I was up and walking right away and didn’t have too many issues with gas. The only pain I still have is soreness from bending too much. I’ve been active since I’ve been home (spent two nights in the hospital). What I’m struggling with is the transition to purées. I had no problem with liquids but I think I’m eating too fast and thus have dumped the three days that I’ve had purées. Not fun. I’m also not really loosing any weight.... I’m only down six pounds since the surgery. I know it will come but I thought I would have seen a few more pounds initially. Makes me wonder if I’ve hit the ‘three week stall’ that I’ve read about a wee bit early.

That's good that you didn't experience much pain. I definitely am sore especially when bending which is frustrating because I have to get creative with putting socks and shoes on ugh. And puree is tough for me because I'm tired of liquids and also puree lol. The weight thing is there for me too. I think it's normal ? I don't eat much but hopefully the foods will get better for you. I'm struggling with finding stuff to puree 😑. Have you found a lot you can eat pureed? ? And with the holidays ugh lol the food I want

@Rolltide87 I found a ton of recipes for purées on Pinterest. Right now, though, I’m keeping it simple and just sticking with squash, sweet potatoes and scrambled eggs and still eating Soups.

I haven't tried squash or sweet potatoes yet. But eggs, yes. I try to add flavor to them though lol tired of plain stuff and I can only get so creative on puree 😑. I should try the sweet potatoes though

Hiya doll. I had mine done 14 days ago 11/13/19 and I STILL feel the same way. It's pretty bad. I also stayed at hospital longer. My husband and family was very against this surgery so I don't have much support but what doesn't kill me makes me stronger, right? It took me a YEAR to push the surgery through my insurance. So I was in my doctors program for a full year before surgery was done. I thought I knew it all! I watched all the YouTube journeys of happy go lucky people.. no pain.. feeling great and HEY.. look follow my makeup tutorials, lol. Realized most those people were fake on YouTube. Anyway... I get what the doctors call spasms.. so aka contractions.. and I'm still on ice chips and Protein Drinks. Girl... I've had 4 children and this surgery pain is 100% hella worse than childbirth IMO. I didn't realize how much pain comes with the surgery. I realize now I wasn't prepared and didn't know it all. My doctor told me I'll feel like crud for 2 months truthfully. Stay in touch and we'll get through this together. I need some kind of support. I wish there were physical support groups in my area but oddly there's not so here I am. My name is Sunshine & I live in Tempe, Arizona.. currently. Glad I found this group because I sure can use some support.

Hi I'm Crystal. I'm new on here. I had my sleeve surgery done 11/15/19. But I feel so alone in my experience. The first night in the hospital was traumatizing, I experienced pain like no other. The pain I had was almost like my entire stomach contracted and it was horrific to feel!!! So I was kept there for the whole weekend. I've been home now and I've been okay. Turning at night and finding a "comfortable"position is nearly possible. Has anyone else had a hellish recovery process ?!?! Or is mine abnormal?! And the whole "days 3 to the 6th day are the worst", is no joke! Ahhh please tell me I'm not the only one in this painfulness

Hi! My VSG recovery was terrible. Pain level was horrific but in about 1.5 months it was like I never had surgery at all! Hang tight, Love. Relief soon 💝

@Sunshine DiggityI too find that drinking Water or shakes while standing is easier. If I sip water or shakes while (for example) reading in bed, I will dump, even if I’m propped up. Sorry to hear about your rough recovery.

"buyer's remorse" is common the first few days or weeks after surgery. And almost all of us get over it and have no regrets at all that we had the surgery....so you'll be fine! But I agree - the first few days or even the first two or three weeks are tough. Just hang in there! Things will get better!!

Omg so you experienced what I did?!!! The pain was awful! And I too, watched all the YouTube videos and was like yassss I'm ready and excited let's go!! Immediately after surgery I was in pain and anesthesia made me sick. Then I had the contraction spasm things and I wanted to die! It was so unbearable! And yea my family didn't come visit and I guess didn't see it as a "needed" or "serious" so they got tired of hearing about my pain each day [emoji58]. I was in the hospital the whole weekend. It's been one hell of a ride and I'm like ahhhh when will this pain end?! My fiancé stayed by my side but none of my family came up there to visit me.. but you have support here [emoji137] guess we gotta keep our head up lol no turning back now

Hi- I had my sleeve 9/23. I experienced great deal of pain after surgery & I normally have high tolerance to pain. One incision in particular hurt for so long. Up to 6 weeks. My Dr & nutritionist said I would probably not feel like myself for 3 months. But I feel fine now. Doesn’t program where you had surgery have people to follow up with? Mine has weekly support groups, access to nutritionist, psychologist & more whenever needed. And also google questions so get wide range of information. Hang in there but would be in touch with your surgeon. Happy Thanksgiving!

I still feel like I'm gonna die. I haven't had a BM in 15 days.. have you had one yet? Oh and you say you eat eggs? Gurrrrrl... what??? I take 3 sips of Water or Protein drinks and here comes the contraction spasms. How are you cooking your eggs? I can't even do Jello. I kind of want to try something today. My husband is at the store looking for baby food for me lol. Ridiculous. I can't leave my recliner or heating pad today. Totally wasn't expecting this kind of pain. I thought it was like 3 days. Now my doctor is like naw.. 2-3 months. Good thing is I lost 20lbs bad thing is.. PAIN! I'm eating pain killers like they're candy at this point. This acid reflux is real. Spitting up gross bile that stays and burns. My main pains are under my rib cage and now my back. Pain killers help and only thing that gets me up but I need to chill on them because I'm down to my last 10 and doc cuts people off. That's another thing doctors don't tell you. They send you home with 30 pain killers.. no refills! I'm glad I hoarded pain killers from my knee situation or I'd be in serious pain. The weirdest thing of all is I'm 2 weeks out and I am still not hungry. I did have a dream about pizza though lol. I'm just not interested in food. I just told my husband to eat an apple pie for me. My body is rejecting any sugar.. even honey in hot tea so I'm definitely in ketosis and probably since I'm already this far will not ever do sugar again. Looking forward :) and omg I'm SO happy and grateful that I found this support group. I needed friends.. support something BAD! Thank you!!!! ~Sunshine

No unfortunately they don't have a support system "yet". It's weird too because I live in a HUGE city. Phoenix metro area in Arizona and I can't find anything :( at least I found this group! Forever grateful!

So.. I haven't had a BM in 15 days.. how long did it take you ladies? Was it painful? I suppose if I ate something besides ice chips I may be able to poop lol. Oh and I'm hot I'm cold I'm hot I'm cold. I cry watching commercials! My hormones are going cray! What in the heck is going on here? It's warm here in Arizona so even opening the window doesn't help so I have the air conditioning on.. then I freeze.. turn it off on off on. I'm a hot mess lmao 😂 my husband just shakes his head and says.. you wanted this done.. you asked for it.. you begged for it. Arrrrrrrrr..... says the skinny guy that's 45 and still wears same size as he wore in high school lol.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
