Something's Stuck, hope it passes soon

Recommended Posts

Good Day folks,

Yesterday afternoon I had half a handful of cocoa roasted almonds as a snack. Normally, no issue eating these, but after I did so in a hurry while rushing out the door, I've had this "stuck" feeling in my stomach/esophagus ever since. I had dinner normally and I drank a ton of Water, but yet this morning, the feeling still persists.

I know most of you are not medical professionals but thought I'd reach out to someone who may have had a similar experience going through the same process. If it persists, I'll call the doctor, but it's annoying as hell. Think I scratched my esophagus or something?

Thanks

You probably created an irritated spot in your esophagus. It can take a week or two to heal, but if you were able to eat normally after the almosts, it's not likely an obstruction.

Yep. Go back to liquids or mushies for a couple of days until it passes. It's swollen and inflamed most likely. :(

I agree. If something was stuck I think the other food would not pass and you would be vomiting. Go back to soft food/liquids and slowly reintroduce regular foods in a few days. This happened to me early on but was back to normal within 1-2 days.

It's been almost 48 hours now with this "stuck" feeling in my esophagus or stomach, not sure where. It doesn't feel like burning like re-flux does, it's like something is lodged like when you accidentally swallow an ice cube and you're waiting for it to melt in your throat, but this isn't melting or going away. I've had three solid meals since this started and I've decided that I'm going to have a couple days of just liquids starting this morning to see if that gets me in a better place before I call the surgeon on Monday.

It's not painful, nor am I bringing anything back up, it's just super annoying and makes my diaphragm make a loud hiccup type of sound when I drink or eat. I did well this morning with a Protein Shake and I didn't hiccup, so it's a start.

This is one of the strangest things I've ever experienced with my health, just thought I would share to see if anyone else has had this. My fear is that the almonds lodged themselves where the surgery took place on my stomach, but of course that's my anxiety probably over-exaggerating things.

If it's going to worry you over the weekend, call the doctor's office today. That's what they're there for!

Or " Hun, I just can't sleep! If I call the Rescue / Emergency Squad for Transport, will YOU watch ME so I don't die?" Reminds me of a Nyquil commercial from a few years ago
Man- "Barbara, Barbara, Barbara, are You Awake Barbara?"
Woman, in resigned tone- "I Am Now!"
LOL with a Big 😀 grin on my face😝 Frustr8

Quick update, my stubbornness prevailed and things got better this past weekend without calling the Dr or going to the urgent care. I'm convinced it was a scratch inside my esophagus because normal food started going through with no issues by Sunday, but I then ate some wasabi and it burned like hell when it hit that spot. Just needs some time to get fully better but all good here now.

And I am Happy Happy Happy to hear👂you are getting better. I had something in that vein when I was 8 or 9 years old. See I was jumping rope at recess when I swallowed a Big Fat Cinnamon Jawbreaker I had hid from my parents and Mrs Jennings, my Third Grade teacher, because all 3 were against me having any sugar candies. Had to prevail upon the School Nurse's mercy, although I didn't confess what I did. Made my Mama come pick ME up and it had been her Week to provide the Alter Flowers at ⛪ church. But Boy oh Boy, I Hurt & Hurt Bad!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
