Diabetes meds and pre-op diet...

Recommended Posts

hi - newbie here.... of course we will ask his doctor at an upcoming appointment but wondering why i don't see a thread on this topic.... my hubby is diabetic and will start his 2 week pre-op diet soon with Protein Shakes and broth - which means no-carbs but his meds work based on him having carbs. i'm hoping they just take him off his meds once the liquid diet starts but his A1C will be tested a week prior to make sure it is in the 7 range. any experience with this is appreciated. i'm also interested if anyone was able to immediately stop diabetes meds after surgery. thanks.

Hi I'm here for my mother and I too have the questions on what meds she is able to get off of. with the research I've done its an almost 100% guarantee that its possible that he can get off his meds some people get a lower dosage or within the week can be off completely, every case is different but I would say his chances are high

This was my very concern. I was advised to just take my metformin. I was on that, plus glimperide and 72 units of lantus at night. It is best to discuss this with his endocrinologist.

I Am now on an occasional glimperide or 25 units of lantus at night, depending on my bs numbers. Hopefully as I continue to lose I will not need anything anymore. I'm almost 6 months post-op and almost halfway to my Dr's goal. Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
