1st Mammogram post op

Recommended Posts

Today I went for my first mammogram since I had my gastric bypass last Oct. While I'm standing there with one of my boobs in the machine the very young tech says to me, "Uh, I need to ask you something. Did you lose a lot of weight since you were here last year because I didn't see any scars from a reduction and looking at your results from last year your breasts look a lot smaller." I told her "yes, over 100 lbs." She said , "oh, I better put that on your paperwork or the doctor is going to think I got the wrong patient." I told her, "Oh, Dr G has been looking at my boobs every 6 months for over 10 yrs now...don't tell him and see if he figures it out." I just looked at the report online and normally it starts out with, "breasts composed of mostly fatty tissue." No such mention this year!

At my first post-wls mammogram, I realized that getting the mammies squished didn't hurt anymore!

I am about to have my first mammogram ever on the 23rd. I am a B cup now. I used to be an H cup and the thought of getting those squished made me nervous. lol.

I had my first mammogram just prior to WLS and I was a DD. I was surprised because they weren’t squished at all like I was expecting. The tech told me that the new technology doesn’t require much pressure, and the breast doesn’t need to be particularly flat, so no squishing

I my first mammogram last year, it did not hurt. I have one Friday pre-op. I will not have one until next yr and I already know mine will be smaller. When I was thin (cannot wait to be that again). I was boob-less. My cousin would say I had acorns lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
