Alcohol after Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I can't find an answer on how long to wait after a Gastric Sleeve to have a drink. I've seen answers from one month to six months to never. I will speak to my nutritionist tomorrow, but I was looking for a quicker answer because of a work event this evening.

Your doctor or nut will most likely tell you never. But there are several people on this site that have had alcohol with no ill effects. I myself have had a small amount at 2 months out and was fine. I think its a very individual thing.

My doctor said never but I've had a few sips at 6 months post op with no issues.

I'm too late to comment before your event tonight but wanted to share anyway. I've had drinks periodically since month one post surgery. And I've had no issues. I enjoy imbibing every once in awhile.

Um you can go to an event without drinking... You could be pregnant or allergic or just healthy...

I’m 10 days away from bypass but at some point in the future would like to have some wine. What type of alcohol did you have?

I know that. That's what I usually do, but we were toasting the healthy birth of a Coworker's early baby, and I thought that I may want to have a glass of wine. I didn't. I'll wait a few more months.

Vodka based cocktails such as vodka and cranberry.

FitVine is great! I am 11 months out and I drink with no issues. Of course, it will slow down your progress. It can keep you from drinking sufficient Water, has a lot of sugar still and are empty calories.

Drinking should be an occasional activity and shouldn't be dranken enough to affect your weight loss progress.

I think any extra, empty calories are not really a part of healthy weight loss, even occasionally. People shouldn't go down the slippery slope of one drink a week doesn't impact it, so I'll keep adding more. Was just trying to make sure people are cautious.

They have several varieties. The Chardonney and Cabernet-sauvinon are my favorites.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
