6 months post op and gaining? :(

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am a February 2019 sleever and I'm down 100 lbs! Yay! But now at 6 months...the scale has been going up. It's about 6 lbs higher than what I weighed at my lowest. I have been introducing new foods and I recently got injured at the gym so I've just been doing cardio... has anyone experienced this at 6 months? A stall or weight gain? Also...what were you eating at 6months? I really just want to take this time as an opportunity and not go backwards. :(

Thank you!!

Are you tracking calories? It sounds like you’ve increased too much and have to cut back. At 6 months I was eating 600-800 calories a day.

I'm tracking calories but not as crazy as I was at first... I did introduce Protein Bars into my diet...and Quest Hero bars. What kind of foods did you eat around then?

I’m trying my best to remember, I was tracking with Baritastic then, (I now use My Fitness Pal) and it only lets me look back until May.

Protien shake for Breakfast

Deli turkey or ham lettuce wrap, cup of broth and almonds for lunch. Or leftover dinner stuff.

Dinner. I ate a lot of grilled shrimp, chicken, fish lean pork or beef on occasion. Usually with a salad or veggie.

I only had one snack a day and that was in the evening, back then it was guaranteed to be sugar free pudding.

I’m a year out and I track like crazy.

ETA, Congratulations on your awesome weight loss.

Try switching the Protein bars out for real foods and see if anything changes. At 6 months post op i began salads in addition to protein

I would stay away from Protein bars personally . They pack as many calories as a candy bar and can be addictive to some. You know yourself better then anyone though.

I was eating on average 800 calories at 6 months out.

Breakfast. 1 egg and either turkey sausage or 2 slices of bacon ( I still eat this today )

lunch. tuna creation pouch and 1/4 cup of cottage cheese

dinner. 1 rib and part of a baked potato with cheddar cheese ect.

snack. Almonds

This is just one day I had logged in my 6 months. Most of the time I could not finish a meal and would go back and finish later instead of snacking on other things.

I'm totally one addicted to Protein bars. Quest bars are my jam. And yes they have up to 190 calories - but they are a big protein and Fiber boost.

My suggestion is to switch from Quest Hero to regular Quest bars. Regular Quest bars have less sugar, more fiber and more protein and in my opinion are a much better choice.

I was also eating around 800 kcal/day then (some people eat fewer than that). I only eat Protein bars occasionally. I usually have one in my purse, but I only eat it if I'm in a bind and don't have any good choices. They're pretty high in calories for when you're in weight loss mode (most are around 200 kcal - if you're only eating 600-800 kcals/day, that's 1/4 - 1/3 of your calories - in one protein bar)

Another 600-800 cals/day at 6 months. I also avoided anything resembling candy at that time. So no Protein bars. Very simple:

B: protein latte OR egg puff OR Greek yogurt with 1oz froz blueberries + 1/2oz walnuts

L: turkey roll up + 1-2oz raw veg OR tuna pouch + 1 cup salad with WF cal free dressing OR green Soup (broth+2oz shrimp or chicken + 1oz frozen greens + 1/2-1oz mushrooms

😧 2-3oz dense lean protein + 1oz steamed/sauteed/roasted fresh veggie + 1oz avocado & .5-1oz grape Tomato

I haven't had surgery yet ... but I have been doing a lot of research with my own DNA and I found some interesting information ... I found out that weight training helps me loose weight more than cardio. Cardio is great and you need to get it in for a healthy heart but in some people it will not do much for weight loss. I agree with the many people here saying to stay away from the Protein bars ... especially if your not doing weight training. Keep positive...

Just some friendly advice. Ditch the Protein bars. They alone caused me to gain a few pounds and even now when I have them I go into a stall.

If you absolutely must have them, limit to one per day as Meal Replacement. Also, if you do decide to keep eating them, look for the ones that contain more protein than carbs.

Many to most protein bars are really just candy bars with some protein added in.

When I tried to bring in Protein bars I had the regular Quest bars. They seemed to have the best numbers for me. But I found if I had more that one or two during the week, that I would have a stall. That’s just me so YMMV, but that’s what I’d cut to see if the weight loss kicks in again. Then adjust as necessary. I still have them every once in a while. Keep a couple in my desk for those days where I just can’t get away for a real lunch or the days I forget it on the counter. :/

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
