How soon is too soon to purchase a few new items?

Is 4 months too early to buy new clothes in a new size? My birthday is in December and I was thinking for my birthday I can reward myself with new sized clothing.

How early did you start buying new sized clothing?

(3 weeks and 2 days till surgery.... YAY!)

What I did as I was loosing was to buy just a few things to get me through. Or go to thrift stores for better deals. Otherwise I would be left with a lot of clothing that was too big. Good Luck!

I try to get by with as little new stuff as possible, and try to buy everything on good sales - like $3 and $5 clearances at WalMart. You will be a different size with each season, so get some inexpensive things, knowing that you will be donating them in 3 more months. I HAD to break down and get some new underwear and bras, but tried to use the old ones til they were falling off me. Second hand and thrift stores are good places to hang out, but a good clearance rack at Walmart is hard to beat. I found some really cute capri type shorts for only $5. Bought one to fit and 2 in a smaller size, which I am wearing now. My closet is very small now, as I keep getting rid of stuff that is too big, but don't want to spend a lot until I am at goal. Fortunately, the hospital supplies my scrubs so I don't have to buy a work wardrobe.

It's a nice thought to celebrate your birthday with new clothes, but maybe don't spend a fortune, cuz you are only going to enjoy them for a short time,

I visited the local thrift store to buy used clothing in various sizes as I've transitioned. I still have 50 more pounds to lose, so I don't want to invest too much in new clothes as I continue to lose.

Wait til the week before your birthday to buy your birthday outfit. Everyone is so different!

I have used thrift stores to buy my intermediate clothing. I try to only pay $1 ea for the items. Good luck and congrats on your surgery. Maximize the hell out of your honeymoon phase and get your walking and hydration on girl!!!

you're going to start blowing through sizes really fast, so I personally wouldn't buy anything new except for things like underwear and swim suits (well, you could get those used too, I suppose - but the thought of that creeps me out). Goodwill and other thrift stores are your friends. Spending $4 on something you can only wear for a month is way better than spending $30 (or more) for it.

While I tried to buy things on sale as I was moving down in sizes, I also treated myself to some full price clothing as a reward to myself. It felt good.

Oh yes I will definitely be looking at the clearance area, I’m all about finding deals and saving money lol

I shop at thrift stores and I get things on clearance. I want to feel like I still look somewhat professional at work, so I do get myself clothes as I shrink, including an occasional treat. Plus, I really hate baggy clothes. Sometimes I’ll find decent deals in the next size down at thrift stores or on clearance, so I have that and some clothes from a few years ago stored in bins under my bed. Every other week or so I pull them out and see what fits.

If it makes you feel good, get a special outfit for your birthday.

I am usually a denim Bermuda shorts and T-shirt person. So I’m not necessarily good for giving an opinion. But I ended up buying athletic bottoms (leggings?) since they fit two sizes and have some stretch. I just couldn’t afford to keep trying to find the right size. And I hate baggy clothes. Or too tight clothes. I did buy comfortable joggers on clearance from old navy just for post op.

I always get things clearance or big sale if I need them and only buy ahead if it’s a really good price. I find brands that I know the fit. I bought one set in a size L that’s 14/16 and another set of Large thats 12/14. I buy men’s t-shirts because they are a little longer and looser and also more affordable to me.

We don’t have good thrift stores, Burlington is pretty good for prices, as are Marshall’s, tjmaxx, Kohl’s if I get clearance or good coupons and sales, sometimes Target, occasionally old navy if it’s clearance or good sales. I don’t buy much and only as needed. I’m not a big spender, I’m more likely to buy for my mom than myself.

I am not a good example since I have weird ocd habits with clothes. I do laundry every 8 days. I buy 4 bottoms for the week plus one for laundry day, and usually eight t-shirts to rotate through. I have one extra outfit in case I’m too sick to do laundry.

Being disabled I can’t speak for workwear but finding bottoms with stretch that will fit longer helps.

As you glide down the scale take the advice given above.

Thrift stores, Poshmark (it’s a dot com) and Mercari (another dot com) are great sources for inexpensive clothes. You’re going to go through several sizes on your fantastic journey!

Will definitely use those!! I even have stuff to sell on both too

Yesterday I ordered 4 things from ModCloth, and found about 12 items from Goodwill. My total cost was about $150. They will last a few weeks. I know it seems silly to spend it, but it makes me feel more comfortable with how I look. So it’s worth it to me.
