Self pay Addiitonal Hospital Bill

Recommended Posts

So a month ago I had my DS surgery here in NJ Virtua. I am a self pay and scrimped and saved for this. I had paid my surgeon, anesthesiologist and hospital all pre paid. My hospital payment had the big ESTIMATE qualification on the quote. Understood. If I had special tests, specialist that needed to see me, more time in the hospital, all understood, it COULD be higher. Understood. A risk we take. So I leave the hospital a DAY EARLY. They sent me a bill for another 3k. are you kidding me? I had nothing out of the ordinary, no tests, nothing extra, nada. They are sending me the details but I am pretty furious. Again, I get the entire "estimate" thing, but how do I come out early and still owe $? I plan to fight this. Just seeing if anyone had ever had this problem. I feel this is so unethical I need to speak out about it. Wanted to see if anyone else had any issues here....

That’s annoying. I also had an unexpected cost and I’m covered by PHI in Australia. I got taken back into theatre as there was concern that I had a bleed. No additional cost from the hospital or surgeon but I had to pay a second out of pocket fee for the anaesthetist!

You definitely should review those charges and ask an explanation for what was not part of your package that you purchased. I am curious about this myself. as I am self pay and they let me know there could be additional charges.

Looks like I need people around to complete a 10K.  I tried to do one by myself this afternoon and I gave up at around the 7km mark.  Gonna try again on Friday, but I may have to look into joining a running club...

My Surgeon asked me a question the other day and i didn't give it a lot of thought at the time.
      He asked "do you tell"
we were talking about peoples reaction to seeing me since i lost such a large amount of me.
I answered that i do tell if they ask but that it seems most everyone is afraid to mention it if they haven't seen me in a while or they decided they already know the answer so they don't need the truth from me (we all know those types)
I have had exactly one family friend come right out and ask me how i lost so much weight this year and i told her i had Gastric Sleeve.
I am sure family has passed it around to other family (you have that type family don't you? or is it just me)
So that left me wondering "do you tell" and i dont mean right at surgery time. more like a year or so down the road do you say how or do you just say cut out the sugar and carbs and WAALAA
Its a real personal choice to open yourself up to that kind of criticism and we know all about how we took the "Easy" way and yada yada yada.
hope everyone is having a great week
