I had my Gastric Bypass reversed ๐Ÿ˜ž

Recommended Posts

On June 30th, I had my Gastric Bypass reversed, due to a hernia and small bowel obstruction ๐Ÿ˜ž It was a 6 hour open procedure. I was hospitalized for 9 days and itโ€™s going to take a bit until I fully recover.

After having some form of weight loss surgery since 2003, my anatomy has been put back to normal.

Iโ€™m sad that I no longer have a tool to help me with my weight but Iโ€™m glad that Iโ€™m alive and able to talk about it.

Thank you to my friends that prayed and supported me through this difficult time!

Oh wow! Is this a risk for people who have bariatric surgery, or is this something you would have got anyway? I hope you recover swiftly!

Alex,

Omg seems like you have been to hell and back!! So sorry you have had so many problems.

Why on earth would they leave the open incision? Did they think they were going to have to go back to Operating room??

Have you had complications from this surgery?

I am having RNY revision surgery on July 16th from my sleeve surgery 0ct 25th 2016.I have to have it because my GERD has gotten so much worse than it was before the sleeve surgery.

I didn't know you could have the bypass reversed.

Good luck with your new journey and you don't look like you need help with weight loss anymore.

There's a risk associated with all bariatric surgery. What happened to me happens to under 1% of gastric bypass patients. It was just bad luck.

It's not really open. The incision is actually sutured at the lowest portion of the skin. The wound is left open like that so it heals and doesn't get infected. If you look closely you can see it's starting to close up at the top of the wound.

Gastric Bypass reversal isn't a simple procedure but it's definitely possible, as you can see.

Good luck with your surgery! I wouldn't let my complication worry you!!

Thanks for the reply Alex and I see what you mean by looking closely at the picture.

I know there's always risk of complications from any surgery. I have never experienced any but I know the risks.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

So glad you are doing good.

How long do they think it will be before you can do normal things like going back to work etc..?

Anyway have a great day.

I'm actually back at work today! ๐Ÿ˜ŠIt should take about two more weeks for the wound to heal. I have to pack and clean it daily, which isn't very fun.

Oh my, dear!!! I am so sorry to see this :( Happy that you are indeed alive and able to tell this story. So I understand how they reconnected your original anatomy, and again I am happy that you are ok. Have you noticed any changed in what you are about to eat in terms of quantity? Additionally, you may also have the best tool (shift in eating habits) firmly established and will prayerfully continue to be healthy & happy. Many prayers to you!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. ย Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
