I am 73, 10 months past RNY, oh I have had some bumps in my weight loss path, but have lost 125(I think) pounds in less than 10 months, weight I couldn't lose and keep off before! And I like that might be grounds for celebration tonight..
Great!

I'm 72 and in holding waiting for insurance approval. I had the Lapband for about 9 years and it worked initially but failed. I'm going through with the surgery to improve my mobility and to get my knee to stop hurting all of the time. I also developed Apena, but that is the only insurance recognized secondary that they recognize. I was told it would take 15 days to hear from the insurance company. I've been in the process since March. Love to hear from older patients.
I am a mature/newbie sleever and it took about six months to follow my road map before obtaining a recent surgery date. Patience is a virtue as it is said. I haven't a lot of weight but my knees are feeling better.

You always need a brief period of young and foolish before you can become older and wiser. And also real life doesn't count until after 40, before that you are only doing Market Research with your days.

Unfortunately from the knees up sassy, love kayaking, camping and traveling, the knees are 73.

I'm 63 and am scheduled 10/1 for VSG surgery in Mexico. I have already had 1 knee replaced and the doctor stated that he thought that alone was a really good reason to have the surgery.

Good morning ladies! I am going to be 70 years young on September 11th (I still am 19 in my head lol) and I have my surgery dat for July 22, 2019. I am so excited and also nervous and. All the other emotions that go with this life changing decision. I had both knees replaced 3 years ago, type-2 diabetes, Hbp, sleep apnea and I am looking forward with the weight loss to correct these problems. Best decision was having both my knees replaced, but the added weight hurts them. I also have a pinched nerve that I’m working on with PT and the weight loss will help tremendously with that issue. I retired to the Carolina ‘s three years ago and I’m ready for all the activities on my “retirement bucket list”. Also, I’m looking forward to dating once again as I am a widow now after 32 years of marriage. So lots ahead. I’m here if any of you older gals want to talk. It helps if we all share with each other..... it makes this process a lot easier.... Kate

Hi Kate...last summer I felt the same emotions as you. At 65 yrs old, I had the VSG on 8/1/18 and it was the BEST decision I ever made!! I was blessed with a very easy recovery (no n/v, no pain, steady weight loss) and have felt more and more amazing each month. I had T2DM, sleep apnea and GERD...ALL GONE NOW!! I was on 6 Rx meds...none now! At 5' 2", I was 238# at my heaviest and currently weigh 144#, having lost 94# so far. Have 14# left to lose but it's going slower now. I began exercising at 6 months postop...walk 2-5 mi nearly everyday and lift weights for 30 min. every other day. I've gone from a size 2XL to a medium-small clothes! I've had to replace my entire wardrobe but now clothes shopping is so much fun since I can wear cute clothes and look good in them. My doctor wants me to stay at 800-1,000 cal/day forever...and I eat healthy Proteins, veggies and berries.

I doubt if I'll ever date again (have been divorced for 33 yrs without meeting anyone since), but just looking good, feeling good and being healthy is enough. Hope you have a great experience and be sure to follow the doctors and nutritionists plan EXACTLY...then you'll have the best chance to lose as much weight as possible. Best wishes for this new chapter in your life!

Well please don't drop out of here, we need you and your perspective, you just may be the spark that keeps us twinkling on! And I do enjoy knowing each and everyone I have met on Here. And I'm snuck over from the other side of the Surgical Forum, but many, many of my best bari- friends are VSG! And I am living smaller at under 200 than I did 300 and more than a half, and feel better too . Now if I could only relive the obese years over again but at 73 I really am grateful for additional DAYS of LIFE.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
