How much calcium citrate does everyone take?

Recommended Posts

I swear my nutritionist told me one, twice a day. But now that I’m actually supposed to start my regimen after surgery, the paper she wrote me says 2 twice a day. Seems like a lot. Or maybe I’m just bitter cause it’s going to take a lot to get me through a month 😂 I’ll do whatever I have to, just wondering!

I take 1000mg liquid calcium citrate (brand name Wellesse) every AM, mid-morning, and the same every PM, approximately mid- evening. If that seems excessive , that is the dosage a broken- down 73 year old seems to require 👵👓🌂

I take 1500mg per day. I usually break them up 500mg 3X per day. My current preference is calcium chews in fruit flavors.

we were told 1500 mg a day - but since your body can only absorb about 500 mg at one time, you have to split it up into three doses - taken at minimum two hours apart. I have osteoporosis, though, so I have to take 2000 mg a day - split into four doses.

650 3x a day. I've been told that we shouldn't take Iron within 2 hours of Calcium due to malabsorption.

1500 per day in 500 mg increments and it cannot be taken within 2 hours of taking Iron supplement.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
