I had my surgery in Bath under Richard Krysztopik. I can not recommend him highly enough. The BMI offer a package deal which includes all your appointments and fills for a year together with a dietician. It was a bit pricey at £8000 but worth every penny as it's the aftercare that makes the band successful.

Hope all goes well for you!

Hi there

There is a thread here on the Hospital Group - you can easily find it as it is entitled the Hospital Group.

Lucie I do urge you to read it before you make your decision where to have the surgery etc;

Also look carefully at what the package entails - read the small print v.closely.

You do want to have as many "fills" included in the cost of your package.

The Hospital Group offered just 2 fills in their £8,000 package with a v.dismal aftercare package.

Also each time I want a fill/aspiration (unfill) it will cost me £100 with the Hospital Group now that I have had my 2 fills.

Believe me you will probably need more than 2 fills to achieve an adequate restriction with the band.

I had my op with the Hospital Group in Nov 2006 and I found their aftercare was v.poor - Don't believe all the hype!

Believe me aftercare is so important.

It is only with the support/guidance of a fellow bandster that I was able to lose my excess weight.

wish you the v.best :scared:

Don't know if you have already made your decision but Healthier Weight are excellent. It cost me 7500 ish and that includes free fills for a year and ane xcellent after care package including support groups, lots of phone calls from nurses and 24hr helpline and world famous surgeons. I am doing really well and would deffo do it again with them. Don't think of the money think of the care needed.

HI, I had my band at Dolan Park in October and the treatment was great. Can advise that you have a look at the WHY GO ABROAD website as it is much cheaper as in approximately three thousand pounds.

Debz Its good to hear you have had the surgery with why go abroad and you found them excellent! That really puts my mind at rest. I have my consultation next week in London with their surgeon Martin Richardson and hope to have the band op in June.

How is your weight going??

I was banded on 30/4/08 at Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle, part of the BMI group. Its a 12mth, fixed price package at £7950, including 2 follow-up appts with the consultant, 2 x-ray fills (others can be carried out in clinic) & 12 dieticians appointments. I was very impressed by their accessibility, email, phonecalls, consultants secretary's number, etc. They also have a monthly support group meeting. The link to the prices on their website is Costs of obesity surgery from BMI Healthcare: weight loss surgery & aftercare treatment in UK hospitals. They have hospitals all over the UK & also do a "credit card" giving 6mths interest free credit, for those that can't quite get the full amount together & want to get the ball rolling.

I also looked into getting banded abroad, but after reading many negative reviews of other operations & more importantly aftercare, both here & abroad, I decided my health & peace of mind was well worth paying the extra for.

I got no support from my GP & had to self-fund, so I saved hard for 18mths, finally cashing in an endowment policy to fund the op. I'm gutted, cos I found an entry on a UK based WLS only yesterday, which stated that, as from Jan 08, my local PCT had agreed funding for the op & there was no waiting list & they even had the agreement with the Hospital I went to, to carry out the operation, so I've paid out £8k when I didn't need to (I fulfil all the NICE criteria!)

Good luck with whatever path you decide to take.

Suzi ;0)

I know it is a difficult decision to make. There is David Hewin who operates at the Nuffield Hospital in Cheltenham or you can go to Bristol. The BOSPA website has a list of surgeons in the different areas. Good Luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
