Had my sleeve on May 23 and had to go to ER twice over the weekend for pain and dehydration. Now pain almost gone but still get something like esophageal spasms. Driving me crazy and very worried that it won’t go away and that I will have to revise to bypass down the road. Psychologically I am really hurting and questioning this decision. Very anxious.

I’m 4 days post op (5/24), and I have no pain or discomfort, but I’m so nauseated, I feel terrible. I’m not dehydrated because I’m getting over 60 ounces of liquid in. I took a pill that my surgeon gave me for nausea and they do help a little, but I hate this feeling. Anyone else on the May surgery list feel the same?

Today I am 4 days post op. I’m so tired of the liquid diet.....lucky I get to see my surgeon in 2 days, I’m hoping he’ll add something new to my diet. I started drinking one half of a Protein Shake yesterday and it tasted wonderful, I did get nauseated afterwards, perhaps I drank it too quickly. I’m going to have to drink a lot more slowly. But as far as pain goes, I no longer have pain. Nausea is my enemy these days. Any one else?

I'm so sick of liquids. I just want an egg or a bite of chicken. *sobs* I had half a Protein Shake last night, heh. It's just not doing it for me.

Could you mix a little cooked egg into your Protein Shake and re-puree it? Sort of like an eggnog.
Yeah you do miss chomping, I guess we all do, but our day Will Come, like most Americans We Want It and We Want It NOW!

Hey there!
I had mine done on Thursday 5/23 as well. I'm sorry you've had such a rough weekend. Did they pump you full of fluids during that overnight hospital stay? I had a constant bag of fluids on Thursday & Friday so I'm surprised you were dehydrated by Sat/Sun. :(

My first 24 hours was rough - and I've seen so many people sail through that so I was feeling like oh gosh, why is it rough for me? But by late day Friday I was feeling so much better. And for real, my pain was SO BAD that first 24 hours. Like I couldn't believe people were saying they had no pain when I was feeling like I'd gotten stabbed. So, this might just be a part of your journey. Maybe you're going to have a rough first week. I bet it passes & you'll be onto another phase.

Fluids- are you having a rough time drinking? I've been able to drink 50+ ounces a day relatively easily. My doctor was okay with diluted apple juice and gatorade. The first couple days I did that, I'm on mostly plain Water at this point, but I've always liked water so it's not a big sacrifice for me to drink plain water. My notes say 4 to 8 oz per hour. So I will fill a 16 oz bottle and tell myself I should be finished with it in 2 to 4 hours & notate the time I started.

I've moved on to Soups and a Protein Shake. The Protein shake felt weird in my stomach. Soups are going down fine. My stomach is definitely spasming or something when I give it something, but it's been okay.

I'm so sorry this has been rough for you. It's so hard when it feels like others are not experiencing the pain or symptoms you are and you start to feel like it's all a big mistake. I was posting about 18 hours post op all WTF!!!! because all I could find was people saying "no pain!" I had moments that first couple days where I was like holy crap this is barbaric & what have I done? I hope it works out for you.

Thanks all so much! Just today I am finally starting to feel like myself again. I guess I was just surprised by how difficult the first few days were. But getting to support in this forum has really helped. Thank you!

Hi everybody, finally the nausea has gone away, and I’m feeling like myself again. I also had a moment when I thought I may have made a mistake. I would like to eat a scrambled egg, or a bowl of farina, something other than liquid.

What soft foods are you allowed? I was 5/23 & I'm on cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, ground chicken, ground beef, veggies, cheese.

I’m having the hardest time eating anything! I instantly feel sick whenever I eat something. And it doesn’t matter what it is! I can’t seem to get this eating down and it’s so discouraging.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
