such a long process

Recommended Posts

So I have started my journey to having the lap band done. All my appointments have been scheduled: psych eval, dietician, phys therapy and consult with the doc. I even called my insurance today and just double checked with them that everything I am about to get done is actually covered! Luckily it is so that's the least of my concerns at this point. It's just eh whole process of getting to the actual surgery date that is bugging me. I wish I could just go to the doctor TODAY and have it done today. I can't WAIT to get this over and done with so I can start on my NEW journey of living life healther and with more enjoyment!!!!

WHOA THERE, try to relax. I felt the same way you did, but when the time comes that you have your date, reality will give you a big smack in the face. Just take care of your appointments, stay on top of everything. I suggest you keep copies of everything you do, and take notes. It will make the process easier later. Just try and relax, cause it takes awhile. My whole process took from the first week of February to now. I am getting banded on Friday 8-29. SO it took right about 7 months from beginning to end.

GOOD LUCK.

I know what you are saying........I am just so anxious to have this done. I (as I am sure EVERYONE on this board) am just so happy that there is this tool to help us loose weight. I had considered the gastric bypass.......but I couldn't go through with it. So now that I know I can get the lap band done it just seems to be taking FOREVER!! I am really trying to take things one day at a time. I know it wont be forever even though it may seem like it. My first appointment is next week!! YAY!!

good luck in your journey. i would do exactly what your doing now... research, research, research! and ask questions! you'll get there!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Hey Lioness,

Everyone can relate to your pain. I first discovered the band a year ago and was desperately battling my impatience for two months until I could go to a seminar. As it turns out, insurance battles kept me from banding for a full year! But I'm not sorry it took so long, in the end.

You're in a great position, you lucky girl. Don't worry--the time really will fly!

Well everyone ......... things are going pretty smoothly!! I had my psych eval - the doc said I was an EXCELLENT candidate for surgery. Went to the DR on Monday and he also said I was a good candidate!! I go for my meeting with the dietician and for physical therapy on 9/25. According to the doc and his nurse, if everything goes well at these 2 meeting I should be able to get banded by mid to end of October.....pending insurance approval. I amy SOOO psyched and am really suprised how quick the time is flying by!!! YAY!!!! :banana :banana :banana

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
