Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?

Recommended Posts

I have had two endoscopies with dilation. I had my surgery on March 13, had first endoscopy on April 11, had second endoscopy on May 7. Frustrating beyond belief. Surgeon said that this probably won't be the last time I have this done. Hoping I get more than 4 weeks out of this last one. Not sure how this happens, but it down right stinks!
I'm having my second one today. I only got a few days out of the first one before it closed up again. I'm getting discouraged since I've been on liquids since my bypass 6 weeks ago. I feel like I'll never get to regular foods!!

Yes, I told Roy, my Bariatric Dietician at OSU I fully expect to graduate to Mechanical Soft instead of Stages 3 or 4 at the end. He told me " Patience Grasshopper, your day still will come!" Reminded me I will have all facets of my Bariatric Clinic"s programs when needed, up to and including the remainder of my life. I am a Permanent Adoptee, and isn't it 👍😛🍀 a totally Cool thing to know!

Despite at least 7 balloon endoscopes and a stent, the sweet taste of going from 310 to 175 makes it all worthwhile. It gets scary when you are in the mist of it, but that too shall pass. Best of luck

Next time you go grocery shopping observe the people around you

when you see a guy whose approx size 34 or a women size 8

just remember that they could have been obese at one time like us.

best of luck

Thanks, Steven! I needed that encouragement today as second endoscopy was a failure.

Hi! I had 6 dilations, and the surgeon said I was the worst case he had ever seen! I am 6 months post bypass, and still not on a full "normal " diet, but I'm fine with that. I eat mostly soft and ground foods. I had a very scary, horrible incident of food stuck in my anastomosis this week and almost went to the ER, but after 4 hours it cleared itself. All and all, I'm doing well. Thanks for asking!!

yeah I saw that and told you to get your butt to A&E then noticed I was like 18 hours late haha!

When I had the twisted gut the day after my bypass holy shysters the pain when I drank :51_scream: and there was a dr and nurse in with me and they were telling me to do 'stuff' god only knows what, but the pain hit me and I just ROARED the word PAIN at the poor dr haha It all came up after I yelled then I was like 'oh so sorry I am fine now thank you'

BUT the point of my little story was that I imagined you were in the same kind of pain with your stuck food and I felt awful for you! But glad you are on the recovery road now :D

REMEMBER what @FluffyChix always tells us, sip sip sip and chew chew chew.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
