  • I never had that problem but I remember my surgeon giving me discharge instructions saying constipation might be a problem and to use Milk of Magnesia.

I would try milk of mag. I know some people take miralax everyday to help keep themselves regular.

You’re welcome. The best thing is to keep on top of your water and take something before you get to backed up. I learned this the hard way.

I couldn't stomach the milk of magnesia....I use miralax that you dissolve in liquid. It has no taste and its clear. No chalky texture or grainy.

I would STRONGLY URGE you to NOT use fiber.
Much better to use milk of magnesia for acute constipation and to use Miralax a few times weekly as a preventative.

My nutritionist and surgery nurse said that Metamucil was okay post-surgery. Why would you urge against it? Thanks in advance.

My nutritionist also recommended Metamucil. I drink it once a day plus take a stool softener and all is good. I like the full feeling I get from the fiber too. Helps me eat less!
I think for some people it can work, but this early it’s not a good idea.
Much better to use an osmotic stool softener than to put a bunch of fiber in the already overstressed gut.
Besides, Nobody should be feeling hunger within a couple months of surgery
