I am not banded yet. I hope to be banded in early March. I was wondering if anyone has had a stomach virus or food poisioning since being banded?

I have this weird fear that it would hurt really badly. Any information would be helpful.. Thanks!:help:

Not food poisoning but just this week I had a stomach bug I think. I wasn't in pain but just felt "yucky" and everything I ate went right through me.

I am just getting started. I have letters from my doctors stating medical reasons for my getting the surgery, and I have a date with a psycholist in two weeks. Can anyone tell me how long it took their insurance to decide if they would pay for the procedure, and how long after that you had to wait for the surgery? Also what do you have to do for Pre-Ops?

I have been a yo yo dietier all my adult life. If any of you are around my age (61) I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance for the info--Pat

I'm 58 yrs old and have also yo yo dieted my entire adult life. I have high blood pressure and lately my blood sugars have been a bit on the high side.

I had my consult with the surgeon on 10/24/07 and had my insurance approval on 11/5/07. (I have a BC/BS HMO in the Philly area)

I have finished the few things they required (Psych consult and Cardiac Consult). My cardiologist insisted on a stress test, so I did that yesterday adn was called last night that it was fine. The cardiologist is sending a letter to the surgeon immediately, so I will try to call the Barix Center to be sure they have everything this week.

I should be looking at the end of December or early January as a surgery date.

I hope this helps....I will keep everyone posted when I learn more!

Donna

As far as pre-op testing, each facility is different. My doctor will want EKG, labs, pulmonary functions at the least.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
