Anyone heard of Dr. Kahlilli at Cedars Sinai in LA?

I hate to say this...but you need to reign it in and be patient. I really made myself nuts and in the end I think not being able to have it done within six weeks was a good thing. Instant gratification is something we all share....that's why we can eat all the bread on the table instead of just waiting for the waiter to bring the food, etc etc. Sipping drinks and putting a fork down between bites, and especially chewing small pieces take patience. It took me a while to figure this one out....I had made myself nuts over getting it done.

Two weeks or so for the appointments isn't bad at all. In the meantime, you can bug your docs office. AND, very often they can give you the referral authorization number before the paper is mailed to you....that can save you a week or so. I found the tests very easy to schedule at Cedars. The Upper GI and abominal ultrasound are at Mark Taper Imaging and they're great! The echo/stress can take a little longer for an appointment, but get the referral numbers early. If your doctor supports you in this, it all goes easier. The worst wait was the insurance. I'm Blue Shield. It took about 2 and a half weeks to get the final okay.

Got to go. I'm banding on Wednesday, and won't have the computer this weekend, but I'll check in on Monday. Good talking with you.

Thanks so much. Listen, we're the ones who understand each other. We've all been through the same pattern of dieting and years of feeling like we're failing. So when someone comes along that really can make the difference, and one decided to go ahead, of course we want it now. But in the end, for me, I was actually better off waiting.

Today I spent an hours in the Vitamin Shoppe, which is similar to GNC. I bought liquid Vitamins and high dose liquid Protein to try (it was gross), and egg white Protein samples. In the end, I'll probably stick to Atkins drinks- they're fine. I observe Passover, but Monday I'm stocking up on those organic broths that come in boxes. I feel much more comfortable when I've prepared. The more I have set-up, the less I can trip-up.

Thanks again and good luck to both of us.

Gwenn

Gwen and everyone on this.

I've been reading all of what you guys are going through and I realized that I'm not alone. I'm just getting started with the journey that I know it will help me. I'm in the LAX area and I'm looking for a good doctor. I have Blue Cross PPO. I don't know how insurance will go. I hope it'll be okay. I have a doctor's appt. with my primary doctor and I hope she helps me out. But I don't really know if I have to go through her to go to Dr. K.

* Should I call and make an appt. with Dr. K first? Or should I wait for my primary doctor to do anything?

The best of luck and many blessings in your journey - GDF18

HI everyone! :biggrin2:

I went to my primary doctor today and I told her about my acid reflex, my ankles hurting and I told her that I was looking into getting the Lap-Band done. She was pretty nice about it. WOW! She was supportive. She told me to find a doctor who will be covered by my insurance and then she'll follow up on anything that the Dr. may request.

I got back to waork and I called my insurance and I am VERY HAPPY about my plans to go along with this. I am 90% covered. YAY! He then gave me the hospitals that are covered by my insuarnce and her gave me a Doctor's name that he is pretty familiar with??? Hmmmm?

He gave me the name of DR. PHILLIPE J. QUILICI. He is an attending Physician at Cedars-Sinai. My insurance guy even gave me his number....

So.... I called and made an appt. to his office and its not until JUNE 10th. WOW!!! Plus the lady told me that it was a 2 to 3 hour appt. and to plan on being here for a while.

** So I wonder if Dr. Quilici AND Dr. Khalili are in the same office? Does anyone know??? Has anyone heard anything about DR. QUILICI???

Any info will be helpful??? :cool2:

Okay... I hope so.

Since I just made an appt. they didn't ask me who I wanted the appt with, I might get Dr. Khalili. We will see. Thanks for the info.

I;m going to a conference THIS Satruday at Cedars in regards to the surgery. Are you planning to attend to any? Or have you done that already?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
