I've had a pannus since middle school.

Recommended Posts

I've scheduled my first consult for plastic surgery for April 1st. My #1 area of concern is my abdominal pannus. I've had one since middle school. I remember how embarrassing it was when my family talked about how I should wear my jeans, with my pooch under my waistband or flopping over it. At the time, I was like 12 maybe, low rise jeans were in.

Now, as an adult, I wear my jeans over my pannus, creating an unsightly fat bulge below my belly button. I don't leave the house without making sure I'm presentable...wearing a long shirt/tank to hide it.

I'm wondering what it's going to be like not having to hide the area...what it's like to wear jeans normally.

I would imagine it would be wonderful! Like you, I've always had a tummy... every time I put weight on it would go to that area. I just can't imagine it not being there! Good luck with your appointment!! :)

Best of luck!!

It's an amazing feeling to wear what you want AND have it look good!

At first, I bought everything in my size, JUST because it fit, lol!!

The months after surgery, you will have swelling. I went from a 0/00 to a 4, for several months. The swelling slowly went away. Don't be discouraged if you need to wear a larger size for a bit.

They will give you an abdominal binder, wear it. After drains are removed you can wear a firm support bodysuit or waist nipper. I wore compression for about 6 months. It felt better in the beginning, and this was my only shot so wanted the BEST POSSIBLE result.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
