Any Other Sleevers who did NOT have to do liquid diet before?

Recommended Posts

No liver shrink diet for me. I was asked to lose 10-15lbs. and I lost 20, not hard at all since I had 6 months to do it. If I had lost any more I would not have qualified because I didn't have 2 co-morbidities. I had to do two days of Clear Liquids.

Nope, I didn’t have to do any special diet before surgery (thank goodness). My doctor literally said just don’t “overindulgence” the night before.
I felt the same way - like I was doing something wrong or missed something - but no, just one of the lucky ones I guess. I enjoyed myself the days leading up, didn’t go crazy but ate what I wanted, and had a light dinner the night before surgery.
I just was sleeved on Tuesday morning, and everything is great. NOW I’m suffering through the liquid diet. Lol

I am on my 7 day of my 2 week. But it's not liquids. He wants me to eat Protein only, and drink no calorie beverages.. Surgery is on the 31st...

Then day before surgery I switch to a liquid diet. So as he said " he doesn't cut through a chicken leg in the middle of surgery "

I did not do a liquid diet before my surgery. Only a 24 hour fasting period beforehand. Surgery went well and progress has been going smoothly. Trust your surgeon!

I only have 3 days to do on the liquid diet - which I'm ok with as it's a lot less than most seem to be. I have a question - how do they know what size your liver is? Just through the bloodwork? My surgeon's office has this 3 day blanket pre-op diet for everyone as it is in their printed brochures, so I don't think they try to hard to gauge size on an individual basis.
They should have had you do a barium swallow and taken scans (x-rays) where they can see everything.

My surgery is coming up next week and I feel like I am doing something wrong or that my surgery isn't going to go as well as others because my doctor does not have me on any particular diet going into surgery. When reading this board I feel like everyone else has to do a liquid diet leading up to surgery. Just curious if anyone else did not do diet leading up to surgery and how things went for you?
My surgery is scheduled for 2/8 and I do not have to do a liquid diet. I asked my nutritionist as I see so many here posting about it but she said it wasnt necessary. I only have to do liquids on the day before, I can do Water, Decaf black coffee, cranberry, apple or grape juice .... good luck

My surgeon just told me to lose weight beforehand to shrink my liver - he didn't mind how I did it. I cut out refined carbs and alcohol, but ate normal food. It worked just fine.

I didn’t have to but my surgeon said I could if I wanted to. I did it (sort of). The diet wasn’t liquid though. The brand we used had shakes and bars, so I just used the bars.

My surgeon didn't put me on a liquid diet for the stated reasons above as it is to shrink the liver to make it easier for the surgeon to access your stomach, this wasn't an issue for me nor the surgeon. I did have to fast 8 hours prior to surgery. I was tempted to go on a liquid diet after reading this board but trusted my surgeon. I reduced what I ate but enjoyed the food.

My pre-op diet was just low carb/high Protein. The only time I had to do only liquids was the day before surgery. The day after surgery my first meal was liquids and then I moved straight to purees. You'll still do great!

My pre-surgery diet was two Protein Shakes per day and a Lean Cuisine type dinner. We were allowed 1 shake and two frozen meals if we got hungry. I had a single incision VGS with no issues. My surgeon is excellent.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
