Loosing weight too quickly/chronic nausea

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was sleeved on 11/8/18 and my husband was sleeved on 11/29/18. As of today he is down from 280 (260 day of surgery) to 205 and he is concerned that he’s loosing too quickly. He’s also been struggling with nausea for most of the day. The surgeon’s office had him start Zantac 75 and peptobismal chewables to rule out just a stomach bug. (In addition to protonix for reflux since the surgery)

He has an appointment with his general doctor and he’s going to bring his concerns up to her as well, but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience here.

Thanks!

i have heard that men lose faster than women. So it could just be that he is losing differently. Or maybe your husband was trying to catch up to you so you could be on even ground going forward :)

I would say if he is feeling ok, getting all of the Protein and liquids in then he is fine. I was sleeved on 11/8 and am down 59 in total, 39 since surgery. I am ok with my loss to date and look forward to the future.

I had surgery 11/13/18 and I'm down 78lbs since surgery and feeling great. I started at roughly the same weight, so I don't think him nor I are loosing too quickly. Just like Jazzy said, so long as he is hitting his Protein and Water targets, I think he is doing fine. I know as a guy I always lost faster than the women in my life. So it is probably just that.

It doesn't sound like he's losing too fast to me. In fact, it sounds pretty reasonable for someone that is complying with their post-op diet and is hopefully getting exercise. However, the nausea is definitely not cool and not typical. The fact that he is not feeling well would concern me. No one wants to lose weight because they are nauseous all the time. If all the antacids aren't helping, I would be concerned at this point about a potential stricture or GERD. He might need an endoscopy just to check out what's going on in there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
