18 months out and struggling!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

At my heaviest I was 363 and 1 year post op this summer I was down to 197. I worked so hard to get there and fought for every single pound lost! At my one year appointment my surgeon told me to be happy at 197 and accept it if I gained some back. Looking back I think I took this as permission to slack off instead of being proud of where I was. Now I am up to between 208-215 and I can't seem to find my way back. Anyone have suggestions on what got them back on track or kept their determination going? I need some motivation about now! I will find some before and after pictures to post. Any kind advise would be appreciated

Sorry you are struggling! Try increasing your Protein, cut out carbs and fat intake and move your body. If you’re already exercising, change your routine. This seems to help! Good luck!

Try a pantry/kitchen purge. Really clean all the problematic foods out. Give them to neighbors and charity or just trash them. Start over again. For motivation considered joining our challenge

Hi HealthierMe193

I’ll be 3 years post surgery on the the 14th of this month and still maintain well.

Things that have helped me:

- Delay Breakfast. Most days I don’t eat to 10 or 11am. I feel this shrinks my stomach and when it comes time to eat I can’t eat too much.

- I go easy on the carbs. I still love my carbs but I try not to eat too much. I’ll have toast in the morning and then reduce carbs during the day.

- I mostly snack on Protein and a little fruit.

- I watch those sliders! I’m still a sucker for chocolate and most days I’ll have a couple of pieces to control my cravings. But I’m careful not to eat too many calorie dense nibbles, things that don’t feel me up.

- I’m careful not to graze too much

Although I still have my bad days, and when I have them I accept it and I become very disciplined so I don’t completely full off the wagon.

Also in regards to determination, my surgery gave me amazing results, I’m so terrified to go back to my old body. I buy nice clothes and to be honest I’m really happy with my reflection and I feel healthy. Even 3 years later I still enjoy the simple act of putting on jeans and a t-shirt rather then a hole heap of layers. The thought of going back to my old me keeps me motivated.

Good luck on your journey, I hope you get back on track soon.

Thank you for such a through response. This really helped to remind me that I do not want my old body back! I worked so hard to get here and I don't want to go back. EVER. It sounds like you have some great habits in place! I may borrow a few. Thanks!

I did my pantry purge first thing this morning! New day new start! The dogs thought they hit the lottery! Now to go out and fill my home with only healthy foods again. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I love that you are aware that today you like your reflection. A body to value. I try to ask what my body needs - more times than not it is a glass of Water. Absolutely my water consumption as the first thing that tends to slide.

Just a quick update. I started back on track about 10 days ago. I forgot how amazing I feel when I eat right and get my Water in. The first 3 or 4 days were hard coming off sugar and caffeine but I don't want it anymore. Yay! Doing the pantry purge helped so much. For anyone who read this post because they had lost their way it's ok you will find your way back. Start small and the rest will fall into place. You got this!!!!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
