This is clearly a bug. We do appreciate you bringing it to our attention and our developers will be adding a fix for this issue to our next app update. We have some exciting things planned for our app this year. Stay tuned for some interesting developments.

I found the same when I tried to enter my starting weight. I don’t even remember what I put in but I DO remember thinking it was weird! Anyway - your weight loss is an inspiration to me and I’m sure many others! Don’t let that sour your from this site. It’s a great resource!!

Yep a tech support issue that’s cost me two hours trying to set up my profile.

This is why I’m posting to the rant section.

Were you forced to spend two hours of your time? Or did you do it willingly?

Forced, if I want to use the app. Forced to move to a use a computer to do what should be possible in the mobile app, mobile web page.

So, forced to try to use their mobile app and site. No warning, no Quality Assurance.

You shouldn’t need to jump through pointless hoops.

There’s a store front. If the development staff is this negligent, will my data be secure in the face of a security breach?

Oh I could go to app support and wait 48 hours for a reply saying sorry it doesn’t work that way and you will have to use your computer.

Leading me to rant about the app and website.

You have all been supportive as a community.

But in a world where chairs didn’t support us, cars didn’t support us, workout equipment aimed at people who weigh 250lbs.

It may not be sinister form of fat shaming, but the one app that’s there specifically for us and we can’t put in accurate data. So the app and mobile website fat shames.

its not the first weight loss app or site that prevents you from using your real numbers.

So, I didn’t do it willingly, I did it begrudgingly. I’m still here which means I have found something I like, but the app isn’t designed for obesity.

And Luckily rants and raves is designed for complaints... tech support for answers. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

Unfortunately rants and complaints are squeaky wheels.

i used to work in tech support. Squeaky wheels get fixed. But a polite call get support, they probably won’t see a resolution. But they get support.

Tech Support call Handle Times are limited to 6 minutes. You get warnings and write ups for long handle times. This is why recidivism rate in tech support is so bad. Because tech support companies reward short handle times rather than customer satisfaction.

I never worked a tech support job where it didn’t take more than 6 minutes for a client to explain their problem and for me to get their personal information for tickets.

So this thread has been a rant, but I’m not worked up. When I’m worked up I’m not as polite because I feel threatened at that point.

Also, I never specifically felt BariatricPal was fat shaming me, I was appalled that the app did. And again, I thought it was hilarious, like weight limits on gym equipment that prevents obese people from trying to become more active. It’s too funny to be angry about.

i have a twisted sense of humor. Sorry but not repentant for finding the humor. :)

Not a Rant:

i want to thank everyone who has followed and helped through this. So far I don’t feel judged, even over this lol.

To me, the bug has helped me learn about the community faster, and since I’m agoraphobic. This is a perfect type community.

So, in spite of my bellyaching (pun (un)intentional, I have felt very welcome here and accepted.

Btw, I love puns that happen naturally.

As long as your issue gets resolved, no one gets hurt at the gym, phones don't burst into flames in your hands... Rant away! That's what the section is here for

Holy shit. It’s an app they offer for free on a site that offers membership for free. You didn’t pay for it. It doesn’t owe you anything.

That said, the mobile app is a bit buggy. I eventually logged into the desktop site and put in my info.

Also- if you viewed the source code to see what was causing the value limits on the input, didn’t you have to do this on a desktop or laptop? So you were on a desktop anyways.
And if you were on a desktop, why not just alter the code that’s being processed client side so it accepts the value you’d like it to?

Mom is that you?

This is the sort of support I’m used to.

A free app which can’t be setup and used is useless.

Source code, I didn’t read the source code and you didn’t read my post. I said in apps like these int variables are and it appears this is using an if else statement between two ranges.

f**k me for being a developer and knowing how coding works. I’m sorry I didn’t realize I wasn’t permitted free thought.

Take a chill pill and remember what the forums say here. Don’t rant on users.

Also, If you think bariatricpal is free, you misunderstand the concept of the web. They offer services to get you to their web front store. I can’t tap go to post, and get to this thread because I get to the post, not logged in, then a splash pop up for the bariatric store, the. but the point is, this is a portal for a store, with a place for a support group.

Um, pretty sure it was just an oversight. I can’t really see what BP would have to gain from fat shaming a bunch of fat people. Guess what? Secret’s out. We already know we’re fat

I received this reply in my email is this an example of the community? I’m hoping not. I hope there is a way to block these types.

I spent much of my career designing mobile interfaces. An upper boundary of 362 on the mobile app doesn't sound malicious, it sounds like an oversight or placeholder setting (possibly from an initial QA trial profile) but worthy of flagging it so Alex can get the devs to add it to the backlog. He's done that, so good.

From what I hear there are a lot of slightly-quirky bits on the app compared to the website, probably because maintaining both is a heavy lift for a marginal business. You may find them, and if you do, best to send them directly to support. It's unlikely to be deliberate discrimination.

This is also the definition of a free site, without qualification. Whether or not there's a merchandising concern attached, interaction here is free. Paying for goods is optional, and there is not payment for pure interaction. That is worth considering when you think of the money available for development efforts.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
