AMAW/CAMAW - Let's do this thang!

Recommended Posts

I borrowed this idea from another site. :) But to be fair, it's a concept that is not new to the low carb/keto community. Atkins '72 had you shoot for your daily Protein goal and to keep your carbs (whole, non-net carbs) to about 10g or less per day (loosely). If you can't do <10g of carbs per day, then try to keep them as low as possible and definitely do NOT exceed 20g of whole non-net carbs.

So those of you who know me, know I get bored with my same ol' same ol' routine! So I felt like mixing things up and tightening up the carb wagon a bit. I'm eating a crap ton of carbs for my body (about 50-60g per day whole which comes out to about 30-40g net after Fiber subtraction). And what tends to happens when you lower your carbs is that you up dietary ketosis (aka you become a fat burning monster, especially if you've already been low carb for a while--you lose your appetite; drop Water retention; and you might just lose a couple of pounds of fat in the bargain--you also return back to easy satiety). And come on...after Fatsgiving, don't we all need to adopt a little austerity?

The rules of the game are simple:

AMAW = All meat All Week (Meet only for the week--but I'm gonna include eggs, egg whites, poultry, game, domestically and internationally produced red meats, etc, cured meats/jerky/biltong, et al, bone broths and stocks and also all seafood/fish in the meat category)

CAMAW = All cheese and Meat All Week (although personally I think it should be MACAW ;) rather than CAMAW and I'm gonna include other forms of dairy + protein supplements + non-milk dairy like almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk provided it fits into the carbs/calories scenario previously discussed, since you're already eating cheese--it just has to fit into your 10g-20g of whole carbs for the day.)

Fats = Healthy Fats as much as you want/can handle (or as little) provided you stay within your daily carb/caloric goal for the day. This would not ideally include nuts/seeds/nut butters, but again, if that is the line in the sand for you, then we'd rather you play with us for the week rather than sit it out cuz you need your mother truckin' nuts. ;) Right? Am I right? Healthy sources of fats = olive oil, evoo, evco, evpo, avocado oil, mct oil, grassfed butter, avocados, lard, tallow, schmalz (rendered chicken, duck, or goose fat), and if you choose to eat nuts/seeds/nutbutters they would also provide fat as well as protein and carbs.

Water/Liquids = 100oz or more per day

Vitamins = Of forkin' course, silly!

Coffee = yes

Tea = yes

******************************

We'll start tomorrow, Sunday December 2, and continue through Saturday, December 8. Who's with me?

For instance, here's my individual goal for the week. I choose to do CAMAW and here are my macros for the week. Mkay?

My calorie goal is gonna be about 700cals/day.

Carbs = 9g (5%)

Protein = 79g (45%)

Fat = 39g (50%)

*****
This is just MY macro/caloric goal. Your goal needs to be set to meet your needs. OK? So if you workout like a beast you will need more cals, more protein, more fat, etc! Right? You may have different caloric goals--go for it! :) But I'm just a shrinky dinky old lady of 5'4" and standard build at 148lbs (about 108lbs or about 50kgs give or take of LBM). My protein prescription for my daily 1 hour of exercise that includes walking + strength training with isometric whole body movements and bands 3 days a week = LBM in kg x 1.5g/kg of LBM = 75g of protein*.

*Since I use the free MFP program, this is the best I can do to figure macros because they only allow using 5point increments to adjust your daily food goals.

Just to be clear - “all meat all week” - what role veggies? In or out (low carb veggies, obviously)...?

Well, it's kinda like this..."Don't Ask/Don't Tell" bahahahaha! If that's what it takes to keep you with us, then I don't think that a couple of handfuls of raw spinach or super greens is gonna hairlip the Pope. But strictly speaking? There are supposed to be no veggies in AMAW and CAMAW.

But I can assure you? I WILL be using a bit of condiment here and there. Hello Vlasic Dill Relish in my tuna salad...a green onion in my egg salad. You see? And, if my ketones get too high and start sparking a cortisol dump (which has happened to me on account of my BS metabolism and hyperinsulinemia), then I WILL be grabbing a handful or two of spinach to gently bring me into a more shallow ketotic state. :D (I just probably won't broadcast it here.) :D

This is kinda doing "caveman" style or Atkins '72 style of low carb for 1 week only. Just to be cray and shake things up. I like to do that once in a while. :D

Hahaha! I honestly have no idea! I am gonna keep the cheese minimal for me. Good Lord, the carnage!!! *SOB* Here's my projected menu for tomorrow. I seem to be "ok" with tiny amounts of cottage cheese...and then the other stuff is just minimal!

I do foresee the need to up my Miralax forthwith and also to add back a full serving of my beloved whole psyllium husks. I will NOT count those mother trucking carbs though. I will invoke the Don't Ask/Don't Tell clause.

Breakfast: coffee (decaff, black)

Morning "Snack" = 2nd Brekky = Nuked Eggwich with eggs for the bun

lunch = tuna salad with egg/cottage cheese (may have to be 2 meals to get it all in)

dinner = Grilled chicken with Avocado

Yay congrats on losing 6.5 stone!!!! Come on aboard!

But please don't hold me up as a success story. I'm just a big ol' backsliding hairy sinner trying to muddle my way through it one day at a time! But I bore easily and am alternately easily amused as you can see here! LOL. I LOVE :780_sparkling_heart: to track stuff in MFP and Excel cuz I'm a freak!

Just last night I was reading my (1992) Atkins book on Induction and I am planning to do it right after the holidays. I have never heard of the AMAW or CAMAW but it sounds promising. On induction, you are allowed 20 net grams of carbs (vegetables only) and of course Protein and fat...I will have to look on MFP at my old food logs to see how much of each I was eating. I hope this will kickstart my losing again since I have been a bit stalled for the last several weeks. With all the parties/concerts/events we are going to and having our anniversary in 2 weeks it would be impossible unlikely for me to stick with it but I will definitely follow this thread and cheer on the participants.

I loved Atkins! I found it so easy but I think because the old versions of the diet were very rigid and for me very simple which suits me... if I’m given too much choice I just can’t manage it!

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
