Post op day 3- dinnertime meltdown

Recommended Posts

I had my VSG on Tuesday Nov 13th and I had an emotional meltdown over "dinner"

My mouth wanted something with texture. I quickly found myself running to the ladies room in tears regretting the whole decision.

HELP!

When will the yuck go away?!

Beyond the struggle of the liquid nastiness, I think the surgery screws with your hormones. I've been insanely emotional this past week, choking up at the slightest things. If a mildly sad or touching scene comes on tv I'm in tears.

I know, believe me, I know! Crackers are a major binge food for me, more than chips or Cookies. I have destroyed more whole boxes of crackers in one sitting than I care to admit. Have a little more Soup, it won't take much to make you full, then distract yourself. Go for a walk, watch a good show on Netflix (I recommend Daredevil, Jessica Jones or Wentworth), clean out a closet, call someone. Get away from the table and kitchen.

liquids are a b!tch, no doubt about it. But, day-by-day, it does get easier. And estrogen is stored in fat cells and gets released when we lose weight, that's why we turn into emotional messes for a while. It will all smooth out.

I get you on the crackers. CheezIts are the bane of my dieting existence. I can't have them in the house. Once you move on to more solid foods, there are some excellent Protein crackers that will help satisfy that craving. Check out Kay's Protein Snacks online. As a snack, they can get 15-20g of protein into you, guilt free!

Good luck!

It’s going to take some time to get used to not eating like you used to. Mentally it’s tough at first. I was very emotional the first few weeks....cried a lot. Mourned the old way of coping.....with food. It gets easier. Hang in there and be strong!

Does your family know about the surgery? I think going to a restaurant this early out would be torture and I think it's ok to skip out on it if that would be easier. You don't always have to do everything for others. In a month or so when you can eat fish, you can resume the dinners out. It will still be hard but at least you can chew.

I completely agree.
I've been a weepy mess come mealtime.

If they know, then flat out tell them you can't handle restaurants yet, and if they are eating tempting food at home leave the room if you need to. Today my husband was eating pizza rolls. I don't even like them normally but they smelled like heaven after drinking all these overly sweet shakes with their nasty aftertaste. I went and did a load of laundry while he ate them so I wouldn't have to smell them.

This is way too soon to be going out to eat. I didn’t go out to eat till I could at least eat soft foods. Too much too soon, I think. It gets easier!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
