Hi ya'll. I'm kinda having a hard time right now and no one around me seems to understand. I just don't feel happy with my progress. I've gotten some compliments and I notice a slight difference but I still feel like I should be losing weight much faster.

I'm almost 6 months out of surgery. I had surgery may 22nd and I weighed 363, I now weigh 285 and It seems like I should be wayyy smaller than that by now. I have an appointment with my doctor in 2 weeks and I'm afraid to see him because I feel that he may be disappointed in me. I sometimes workout and then ill stop for weeks at a time. My doc told me to never count calories or weigh things because thats like a diet and they don't want me to feel like I'm on a diet. I don't overeat and everyone says I barely eat now. I don't know if I'm developing some type of body dysmorphia because I still feel the same amount of fat. I don't know what to do.

Just based on y'all knowledge is 78 pounds 6 months out good?

I'm in the same range as you are. Six months post op and I've lost 70 lbs. I'm happy with my loss. Everyone is different as to how fast they lose weight. I could NOT have lost this amount on my own. I feel great and am continuing on my journey to be more healthy. My surgeon said I'm doing great. I'm off all meds that I took before. Primary care Dr said I should have lost more. I'm not letting him get me down. I've followed my surgeons advise on eating and Ive done the best I can. Im in my 50s and I'm not going to compare myself to younger people that have lost way more than me at this point. The more a person weighs the more pounds you need to lose before its noticeable. Stay positive. Your doing great!

I haven't had my surgery yet but I think you're averaging about 3lbs a week right? Sounds amazing to me! At this rate, even if you slow down some you'll be around 200 lbs at a year mark - how awesome will that be!! I think you're kicking butt, but I know there are a lot of experienced peeps on this board who can lend some knowledge to.

My surgeon told me to expect 8-10 lbs a month, so that sounds about right? But true everyone loses at different rate. Don’t focus only the number on the scale, sometimes it’s best not to weigh yourself daily and just stay the course! Good luck!

70 pounds is amazing for 6 months. Remember this is a tool and the results are based on our effort we put into it, not the pouch itself.. But that amount in that short time is amazing.

Whenever you feel discouraged by believing your weightloss is not as much as you think it should be, try to put it in perspective. Prior to this, have you ever lost 70lbs in 6 months? That's over 10lbs a month. That is phenomenal. YES some people lose weight faster. But also many lose weight slower.

I think many people have unrealistic expectations on how quickly they will lose the weight.

Remember, this decision has you 70lbs closer to a normal weight range, 70lbs closer to being healthy, and 70lbs safer from obesity complications. There is no negative feelings or disappointment to be had in that.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm officially no longer "obese" and now classified as "overweight!" Years ago when I was 108 lbs (my old adult holding weight until the last 10 years) would I have ever thought there would come a day that I'd celebrate being "overweight!"
I hit my one year surgery anniversary next Wednesday (August 21st, 2023) and just so happen to have my final bariatric clinic check up on the same day. I'm looking forward to seeing my surgeon and being officially released into the wild! 😋
I'm curious as to what my labs will say, especially since they told me to not take my vitamins a few days before the labs. To be honest, I find this confusing since the whole point of taking vitamins is to keep your stats within normal ranges - to assure they're working as intended, yet since I quit taking them it will show I need to take them..so I'll hear "make sure to take your vitamins!" A vicious circle. Who knows why?!
Anyway, I have 40lbs to go to meet my goal and I'm really hoping I can do it in the next 6 months (for a total of 18 months post surgery). At my starting weight the charts show only 20% reach their goal within 18 months with a starting weight of 259 the day of surgery. I'd like to add that to achieved goals. Fingers crossed!
I'm amazed and thankful for everyone here on these forums who've supported me, answered my questions and understood the plight! Thank you all, you know who you are.
