Just banded and HUNGRY!!

Recommended Posts

I was on Protein liquids for the first two weeks, 4 0z per hour

Mushies - 1 week - 1/8 - 1/4 cup solid portions with fluids still

Soft/chopped - 1 week - 1/4 - 1/2 cup solid portions along with fluids

Timeline:They also said that it should take 20-30 min to finish these small portions... whatever, they get too cold. I take about 10 min to eat that small amount.

They are all a little different. I'm trying to stick to smaller portions. Like for lunch I have 1/2 cup of bean Soup, but I have 1/4 cup each half hour. that helps me. I'm worried about stretching out my pouch too soon.

I was told to eat 1/2 cup of food (mushies) 3 times a day and if I get hungry in between to have 1/2 cup of yoghurt, crushed fruit, jelly... food along those lines. I was told drink Water, vegetable juice, tea, coffee etc through the day. So far have no problem with hunger.

Do you know about how many calories a day you're consuming? Im only at about 600-700...

Lucky, you get to have coffee and tea? They said no to the caffiene and no to Decaf because of the acid... I'm going to start drinking veggie juice for sure. I'm tierd of just Water and protien drinks.

A full 1/2 cup at one sitting sounds like so much to me. Maybe I'm babying myself. I should be feeding my metabolism more. I only get hungry at night, but i'm affraid to eat before going to bed. I'm going to modify a little bit to like what you're doing and see how the hunger goes. thanks for the tips.

I must say the coffee isn't agreeing with me so I might give that a miss for awhile. I don't know how many calories I'm having but I'm sure it's got to be under 800. I found if I eat regulary I don't get hungry. A couple of times I left it too long and felt hungry but didn't take much food to curb it.

Wow, I have been reading for over 2 hrs now and there is a huge difference between what doctors say, but here is what I am doing and what has helped me.

Banded Oct. 2. Felt ravenous on 10/4, late night. I had only Clear Liquids, till that night.

I drank a protean shake and that helped some. I SIPPED it over a 30 minute period. About 8 oz.

Then I walked - that seems to help whenever I get hungry this is probably the biggest help for me. I then realize it is just head hunger and try to listen to my gut (pardon the metaphor), which tells me I am more full than I think.

I had some oatmeal about 1/2c- thin with salt and pepper- so tired of sweet stuff. Chewed and chewed till it was truly liquid.< /p>

I had 1/3 cup mashed potatoes with savory spices mixed into beef broth till it was thin Soup. This helped the most. Again I took 1/2 hour to eat it. Felt full for 6 hours.

I have some very small bowls -about the same size as a large coffee cup w/o handle - this helps.

I get up after I eat and move around. This helps remind me I am full. I am trying very hard to listen to what my body says, not my fat head.

I use self talk when I see Carl's Jr. on TV - a. that would make me barf and barf for days.... b. is this tummy hunger or head hunger? c. stand up, stretch and feel my tummy then say to myself: ok, boy, I know you want that burger, they make it look reeeeaaaaal good. But do you want it bad enough to vomit for hours, screw up the LAP-BAND®®®®, make all that pain you went through for nothing? What do you want MORE? Finally I ask myself, will I feel better after I eat that greasy thing, or worse?

I usually say a few more words, but not sutiable for posting here!

I hope these Ideas help a little.

Good luck!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
