Liquid diet struggle

Recommended Posts

I’m two days in on the liquid diet and I’m struggling. I’m allowed to two shakes a day and one meal with a non starchy vegetable. Can you y’all tell me this will be easier? I read on here that people cheat on their liquid diet but I don’t wanna know that. Somebody tell me that it’ll get better. The shakes leaves a nasty after taste. Help me so I won’t cancel my surgery 😢

Hang in there. In my opinion the pre op diet is the hardest part because you feel like you're starving. It's hard but it's doable. I was allowed sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles and broth in addition to my shakes and one lean meal.

It gets better. Swearsies. Just doooo eeeet. I chronicled it all here...from the first day of Liquid Pre-op until I had my "sea legs".

Thank you so much. What kind of lean meal did you do? I feel so lost and confused.
I alternated between tuna mixed with pickles and low fat mayo, or baked chicken breast or white fish like tilapia. I'd have cucumbers and tomatoes with the tuna, and green Beans, asparagus, spinach or broccoli with the meats. I used seasonings for flavor rather than sauces or butters. Admittedly it was a boring couple of weeks but I planned ahead and it was easy. Even though I didn't want that stuff anymore, after! But now I'd like to have it all!

Thank you so much. I’m definitely adding that too my list. You definitely been a big help. I don’t want to risk my surgery by not following the liquid diet like I’m supposed too.

Do NOT cheat! You will be mad at yourself. I wanted pizza so bad during my liquid diet. I thought one slice was fine. However, I was strong!!! I would not allowed myself to do it Bc I was scared I would screw my self over during the surgery. Just eat a bunch of ice pops! It does not get easier. Also, make thick Protein Shakes. They fill you up much better than the store ones. Keep weighing yourself Bc you will see the weight go down and that will make you happy. Also drink your broth it tastes delicious during the stage 😂😂 good luck!!!

I got NOTHING but Protein Shakes, ZERO food/meal only Protein shakes for 2 weeks pre-op!!!! I felt like I could eat my hand!!! ::pass the salt and pepper:; It was so very hard but it does its job in preparing you for whats ahead. You can do this it won't last forever.

In my pre op liquid diet I was only allowed cottage cheese and yogurt other than the fluids. That sucked. broth was a blessing because even now, I'm sick of fruity flavored stuff. But I enjoy a Meal Replacement with my Protein Shake frozen to about slushy consistency. I know you said you don't like the Protein Shakes, but have you tried various ones? GNC makes a bunch of different brands and flavors I was allowed pre and post op and if you try it and don't like it, you can take it back in and swap it for another flavor. I was seen plenty at GNC until I found my faves. I have a Cappuccino ( I love coffee) that I add black coffee instead of milk or Water and slushify it. I didn't like milk based shakes as much as water. The milk changes the texture. After surgery I really didn't like the ones with milk like Premier Protein.

Everyone’s pre op is different so check with your office! In addition to Protein Shakes I was allowed 1 small apple or orange per day and 1 meal of 4 oz. lean Protein (I had grilled chicken almost every day) and non starchy vegetables. I found after the first 2 or 3 days it got easier (and I’m a BIG girl!). Just don’t give up! If I can do it - YOU can do it!!! 👍

Thank you guys. I normally used to drink coffee every morning and thats been a big struggle.i also read over my information I’m allowed one lean meal a day and a non starchy veggies. I think since this is all new me and I was just overwhelming myself. I’m proud of myself I went out with my friends last night and I didn’t not have any alcohol. That’s a huge step for me

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
