Starving still... regret seriously increasing

Recommended Posts

So I have been starving and I’m at a week and a half post op. I agree with Fluffy, drink drink drink. Are you allowed low cal, low fat geek yogurt? Even a third of one really fills me up. I’m also learning to differentiate Head hunger from real hunger which is very hard. broth really helped me with the hunger. It felt like more than just Fluid.

What Fluffy said is totally true. Even soft foods do not fill you up like substance. When you're having to chew chew chew, those things sit heavy and fill me up with just a couple of ounces (eggs, turkey sausage, that kind of thing). When eating yogurt or cottage cheese or things like that, I can probably hold double before feeling full. As soon as you're past the mushies I bet you feel better after eating. Hang in there, this is weird for all of us newbies!

I am one week postop and have been starving since I was in the hospital. I am feeling really discouraged because I thought this would help with my hunger at least a little, but it did nothing?? So now instead of actually being able to eat what I used to and feel satisfied, I eat my 2.5 oz and continue to feel starving. I am also having the same old cravings and I worry that them, coupled with my hunger, is going to lead to failure. I could have starved myself without surgery.... Yes, I've contacted my surgical team and I'm getting a lot of "we don't knows" and have been forwarded to 4 different members of the team so far and I'm now waiting on the 4th to try to find an answer for me. I feel like I made a huge mistake! I am supposed to eat five 2.5 oz meals for 2 months and I literally sit and stare at the clock to run to eat at the 2 hour intervals. I feel like I am set up for failure because I can't go 2 months feeling this way! I'm even starting to contemplate ways to just stretch the pouch out eventually and just say eff it. It's a bad head space right now.

First stages of food are not satisfying. Hang in there. It will get better as you progress.

I'm not still on liquids. I am on puree and some soft foods. Had chili, tuna, cottage cheese, and yogurt today.

You could be experiencing head hunger. Try drinking more fluids throughout the day and doing something to keep your mind occupied

Just wanted to update. This morning I woke up and just filled up a giant Slurpee cup from the tap with hot Water. It's been an hour and I've had 39 ounces!! I had my first meal and it was filling for once!

You seriously never appreciate the power of what water can do when you're drinking 100 oz a day... until you suddenly drop to... 10 a day. Feeling much better already.

Yayayayayaay!!!! It's amazing how BAD TERRIBLE being dehyrated makes you feel. Seriously fu*ks with your mind! Makes you feel like you're going cray and have absolutely no control over anything in your life.

That's an awesome report! Glad you figured this part out for your equation to success!

I felt so hungry early on also. I thought my surgery must have gone wrong or something because I was still so hungry! It has stopped by now though. I'm pretty sure it was in my head. My brain was like, hey you're SUPPOSED to be hungry right now, get to it! My nutritionist even told me that was the case and I didn't believe her. But now I only worry about Water, Protein, and vitamins!

There is so much mentally going on when we have WLS. It's a battle. But we'll get through it!

Just talked to my dietitian. She said to forego eating if it means I can get more Fluid in. I'm only at about 25oz today so far. I also asked her why my manual says to only have one Protein Shake a day, which means I am getting only 15g of Protein (minus my small Protein meals), and she said if I can tolerate more to have more. Um... yes. The Protein Shakes don't bother my but this friggin book says to only have 12 ounces a day!

The conflicting information is really frustrating. What the dietician says v. the materials they give you, then v. other sources of information. It doesn't make sense that some doctors allow yogurt at a certain time and others don't unless they are tailoring the rules for an individual patient. Its so arbitrary. Like, Doctor X says SF pudding is ok on full liquids but if you have the surgery with Doctor Y SF pudding is for the soft food stages. So annoying.

Welp. Today I drank 26oz in 30 minutes, which was apparently a grave error... as it came out the other end 10 min later without warning. So, yes, I can drink now... But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Ughhhh.

As far as Protein, I am just following my handbook exactly and not specifically counting. They said not to worry about meeting protein goals for several weeks and to just follow the book. I am probably 2/3 of the way there anyways with what they have me eating.

I had a mini mental breakdown last night over Taco Bell. The ex moved out yesterday and it was contentious and now I am totally alone, but started reading Never Binge Again during said breakdown, and it made me feel a lot better.

Sorry am laughing at the 26oz in 30 minutes part followed by the "But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Uggggh!" LOL, not the next parts. Yes, that's probably excessive. ;)

Super sorry you are dealing with all of this AND experiencing tough issues with your home life. If your ex was toxic for you, this is a strong dose of medicine, but will be best for you and healthier in the end and you WILL get through it. The important thing is TO FEEL and EXPERIENCE it. Let yourself break down. Let yourself cry. Self-love. LOVE that you are reading that excellent book!!! Good on you!

You can seek support networks like grief counseling through church (most are free), also do good things for yourself during this time!

But I disagree with tracking. You are at the point now where you need to start developing those habits. If you don't know where something is broken, you'll never know the precise place to apply the tool to fix it. Tracking and logging provides that data that you need, when/if you need it. We will always need it. Cuz we all have times we go off track and need to direct our course. Also it makes you accountable to yourself. And helps you stay on plan. You still screw up. LOL. You're human. We all screw up. But something about seeing it on the screen in real life, is very sobering.

Also, when Taco Bell looms, go eat 1oz of dense Protein. After trying to drink your Water first. My rule that I use is: If a hard boiled egg sounds appealing to you, then it's real hunger. If it isn't and instead it's something comforty? It's head hunger. I ALWAYS feed head hunger with a glass of water, or hot decaff, or hot green tea, or hot matcha. For me the hot works awesome at quenching the empty need that head hunger creates.

You're doing good! Congrats on gettting through life!

Keep one day at a time. I am only 3 days post op, but I have to say, some of these folks out here like Fluffy are GodSends.. All the encouragement I see in your posts Fluffy is just amazing. I appreciate your posts even when I am not in the same position as Mouse.. Yet, and hope to bypass that one. This is what I call team effort!!! Makes me happier I did this as I know there will be somebody out there to fight with me through the tough spots.

This sounds great, what kind of shop can you buy it from , would it be the Apple shop?

( PS. I know it was a mistake but it brought a big smile to my face)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
