Is anyone else feeling down?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Im new here & I hope someone can help. I’m 6 days post-op and I can’t seem to get all of my liquids in. It’s so hard for me to get used to only taking 1 or 2 sips at a time. I practiced so much during pre-op but it’s much different now that I’m sleeved. I know it takes time to heal and I’m still swollen. I just feel a little down that I’m not doing better. My last day in the hospital, I finished almost all of my Water and was eating broth as well. Now when I eat broth, I feel full after a few spoonfuls. I’m using toddler spoons, btw. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you tried popsicles? You get to count the liquid in them and for a lot of people, they go down easier. Good luck!

I was there! I was actually not doing so hot when I left the hospital in my intake and it went back down. Then I increased but now have gone down again. Your body is changing ! Be kind to yourself and to it 💖 it will definitely thank you later. If you go a week more like that maybe call the hospital backto see if you can meet with the dietitian or speak with someone over the phone. Hang in there I know it's tough, I'm still navigating the highs and lows and I'm 3 weeks post op

Xo

You are completely normal. You just try to do your best but don't beat yourself up if you can't. Someone suggested popsicles and that is a great idea!

Was feeling desperate, hungrish, wanted something, made thin microwave oatmeal, poured a little 1% milk on, sirred it up, afraid of the solids with Precious Pouch's stricture, but gentlely slurped the milk floating. Now to convince Precious that it is not poison and needs to be vomitted up. Cross my eyes, cross my toes, hush my mouth, and, keep it down? 👏?😪🙏

@Frustr8 Thank you for your encouragement. Your messages mean a lot to me. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one going through this, and that there are people that have gone through the same thing and figured it out. It gives me hope lol.

I’ve tried popsicles but they seem to upset my stomach as well. Anything too sweet or too salty. I wasn’t huge on sweets to begin with. Salty treats were my thing lol. I’m a gassy mess. I can’t eat anything with my tummy bloating. I thought that maybe I’m eating too fast. Im still trying to figure that part out. @esskay77 thank you for your reply, and your encouragement. I’m glad I decided to utilize this message board. It really helps.

Maybe try making your own popsicles to your taste prefrences. Maybe mix up some electrolytes in Water then pour in popcicle molds. You could also make Bone Broth popsicles. Just an idea. Hang in there, they say it gets better.

@EmCaMom I tried your suggestion and it worked out great, thanks!!! I’m also getting in more liquids. I bought some 8 oz bottles of Water. I think because they’re smaller I don’t feel so intimidated. I’m adding mint, lemon, etc. I’m just ready for the soft food phase. I’m so over purées.

I agree I was feeling the same way. Not getting enough fluids not eating enough. I am 3 weeks post op and it seems to be getting worse getting food and liquids in. I am not dumping but I feel uncomfortable each time something goes in my mouth. Questioning why I did this!

The problem with fluids is they say don’t drink 30 mins before or after a meal. That’s a whole hour. And you’re meant to eat five times a day (or I am, three meals and two snacks). That’s at least five hours you can’t drink!

This is all completely normal (the questioning!). At the beginning we all question why we did this but then something happens and we wish we had done it sooner. liquids are probably your first priority right now and then I assume you are on soft foods? Keep them soft, pureed -- that will hopefully help. You'll get there but if you are thinking something is really wrong, always call your doctor.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
