TMI - preop diet and haven’t pooped in 7 days

Recommended Posts

Sorry for this... Is it normal that I haven’t pooped in 7 days? I’m on a liquid diet so there isn’t really anything going in but it just feels strange not to have pooped in so long. 😬

I'm no medical professional, but I'd be dumping Miralax into my liquids after that long. Yowza. I feel like the opposite is more common than Constipation 😐

I didnt have any problems on the preop diet but I stopped poopin the day before surgery and didnt poop until a week later while on all liquids. I figured no solids=no poop

I also recommend starting miralax and maybe even a does of MOM to get this going.

Part of my docs pre op was the day before was bowel day. I was only allowed Clear Liquids and I had to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. I've been a roller coaster after surgery. I'm either having major diarrhea (mostly during liquid stage) to Constipation and having to take milk of magnesia. I stay with MOM in my house now. I've even tried adding daily Fiber but I have no luck

How far post op are you? If you're still on pain meds, they can cause Constipation as well as pure Protein and not enough Water / Fluid intake. Additionally if you're soon after surgery it's not uncommon to get constipated. It is important to keep up with your fluid intake and I would recommend following your post op plan and taking a laxative to help get you started. If you are still experiencing constipation after taking a laxative, please follow up with your physician as you could be impacted, which often does require medical attention.

Take 2 Colace now. You can definitely get very constipated during the pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
