The link between high protein diets and cancer

Recommended Posts

"The researchers said they recommend eating about 0.8 grams of Protein per kilogram of body weight every day in middle age. For example, a 130-pound person should eat about 45 to 50 grams of protein a day, with a preference for plant Proteins, the researchers said."

No link to the study in this inflammatory and misleading article.

Also the definition of 0.8g-1.0g/kg of weight is the average recommended protein percentage for most non-endurance, normally activity people, by noted Keto specialists: Dr. Stephen Phinney, Dr. Jeff Volek, Dr. Eric Westman.

Dr. Jason Fung, board certified nephrologist and IF/keto evangelist puts that protein requirement closer to I think, about .56g/kg of body weight.

So wow...where are the gobs of protein being recommended in low carb/keto diets?

What in her background in neuroscience makes her an expert in human nutrition, particularly linking Protein intake to cancer. It would me like me writing an article on geriatric nutrition even though all my education, experience and knowledge is in pediatrics.

I will continue to post nutrition articles that are of concern to bariatric patients. We are adults. Those who appreciate them can read them. Those who don't....can either continue to whine and cry about them....or act like adults and simply ignore them.

I've been thanked privately and encouraged to continue posting. I'm happy to do that for those who find it of use.

Absolutely no problem with posting health articles. Appreciate the warnings on high Protein diets.

60 grams of protein is the same as any other bariatric patient. 60 grams is not a high amount of protein. Right?????

You said "I do eat meat. When I do, it's mostly chicken and fish. I very occasionally eat fresh red meat. I get more than half of my daily require Protein from plant/carb bases sources. I eat 60g of protein per day.

I'm glad to see that all of us are within a good range.

Sugar in any form has been found to be linked to cancer returning in previously treated patients. So. You might want to check out articles from the mayo Clinic. FYI

Hilarious! My average protein intake last week was 60g. I'm gonna die!!!!!! Nooooooooooo!!!! And so are you! ;) hehehe LOL, and I don't know about you, but most of my protein comes from fish, shrimp, chicken, turkey, and then *gasp* get prepared...eggs/egg whites/some limited dairy/ as well as *bigger gasp* some nuts, seeds, a couple of Beans when I'm feeling defiant and a crap ton (about 1# a day) of very choice leafy greens, brassicas, cruciferous veggies, mushrooms of all varieties, alliums, and summer squashes--even a winter squash or root veg now and then when I feel a wild hair...OMG! Dying. I tell ya!

It's cognitive dissonance--pure and simple. She makes assumptions about the low carb/keto woe and she has not one bean of information about it, and yet repeatedly slams us. And, last I heard, wasn't the advice to eat protein first coming from our docs and RDs? I don't know about you, but I followed my doc's plan. Didn't you? :D ((hugs))

Yes. And I actually like Longo with quite a lot of IF, SIRT1, longevity research. The reason I'm even posting is because she's now posted this information in at least 2-3 forums in the last week and continually preaches poorly about any other dietary choice than her own. And I feel she is shoving it down our throats and beating us up (making assumptions about our diets) for following our doc's and RD's plan, being rude about our choices and denigrating our intelligence. LOL.

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
