Surgery is This Friday!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!! I am sooo excited, I am having my surgery this Friday ( the 16th). I just started teaching first grade last week, and I am only allowed that Friday day of surgery off. Do you guys think that by Monday I should be able to go back to work? I feel that I will, anyways, I am beyond excited, and am also wondering how should I expect to feel after surgery?

All the tips and advise is greatly appreciated!

hi ashley,

good luck on your surgery.....

i think there are as many experiences after surgery as there are people on this site.

for me...by day 3 i was ok.

it is key to walk, walk, walk and drink lots of Water. also doing the breathing exercises they give you after anesthesia.

i had my surgery on a friday. i slept all day saturday and started walking on sunday

i think that was one reason i got back on my feet pretty quickly.

but i will tell you i was pretty tired for 2 weeks.

let us know how you do...

I know how you feel/worry. I started a new job in Sept. I am only allowed 2 days PTO. My surgery is 12/3. I get out of the hospital 12/4. I have to be back at work on 12/5. Yikes. I should be okay after reading all the success from others on this site. My job is a desk job so I should be okay. I'm going this friday to buy some 'comfy' pants so they don't poke or touch my incisions. I will have time to walk around the building and/or treadmill in the fitness center. Pray for me!

thanks.

My surgery was on a Wednesday. Though I was up and around within several hours, there is NO WAY I could have gone back to work the second day or even third day, and I have a desk job. I went back on the 6th day after surgery and still had to leave work early because I was so whipped, and I eft about an hour early that entire first week back. You need to be REALISTIC here. You CANNOT push yourself. It's all fine well and good to know you have just a day or whatever to get over it, but that is not practical. You need to be prepared for the eventuality that you may very likely HAVE to take more than a few days off. Everyone is different, but you ARE getting over SURGERY here, and surgery ALONE takes a lot out of the body stamina-wise. You absolutely need to be aware of this.

I agree completely with Kacee. If you plan for more days and can go back earlier, that's great! But I wouldn't do it the other way. Is it possible to have your surgery right before Thanksgiving so you have the long weekend to recuperate? Or if you can't go back on Monday, is the worst that would happen is that you don't get paid? I'm a teacher, too, but I teach adults and I only teach up to three classes in a day. I can't imagine being ready for a classroom full of first graders on the third day after surgery!

Go check out the November 2007 Bandsters forum and you'll see plenty of surgery and recovery stories. We're all doing great but it took a little longer than you have planned.

Congratulations and good luck!

Most people can go back if there isn't any lifting involved. I went back to an office job, I was still sore, but tolerated it. Good Luck and don't forget to let us know how things went!

I'm gettin a little nervous but mostly anxious!!!! I am starting my liquid diet tomorrow. I actually have until friday before I have to start but I thought I would start a little early to be on the safe side. I figured if I would happen to cheat I will have 4 days to get all the cinks out. And I would really like to give it my absolute best shot to NOT cheat!! I know it will be hard but I also know the end result so that helps. I just had an early Thanksgiving so I won't want any of the goodies next Thursday. I know its going to be hard but I'm ready. I have things plannned out for myself after I get home from work so I won't dwell on eating. I'm sure I will be on here a lot just for support to get thru this first part of it. I told my family food is an addiction for me and it would be like me telling them to quite smoking cold turkey. Its the same for me. Does anyone else feel the same way??

I am a little confused about what to really eat right now. Or should I say drink?;) I would really like to know what other people have tried. I bought some slim fast but that has a lot of sugar in it. So please help me out here if you can. I've read many different things on this, now I would like to hear from someone thats actually gone thru it. Any ideas or pointers on what I should be doing would be greatly appreciated at this point. Thank you. :help:

I totally agree with kacee--I worked out four days a week right up until the day before surgery and could NOT have gone back to work after even four days (seems to be the normal time in the posts). Grant you, I'm older but I do have a desk job. (I DID have actual staples too, which I think made a big difference over steri strips)

Crazy8, I responded to your thread about what my pre-op diet was, as directed by my Bariatric Center. I forgot to say that my directions specifically said do not buy Slim Fast, Ensure, or Boost. However, that was probably before Slim Fast Low Carb (5 gr carb), which I occasionally use now (still on soft foods). But you probably bought Slim Fast Optima, which has mucho carbs--stay away from carbs!!

Best of luck to you, ansherwo... ;)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
