I was wondering how long do you need to worry about leaks

Recommended Posts

I had surgery the end of May. I have been ill, throwing up, chills, and fever. Do I need to worry about a leak? I have done really well, 250 to 193 pounds May to Now. First time getting sick.

You are well past the phase of a leak in the new cut edge of your stomach.

That said, any of us can get ulcers, diverticulitis, other ‘leaks” just like non bariatric folk, but we can also get any of the other many many types of (more common) infections too.

Sounds serious - I’d see a doctor. You can’t go too long without food and, in particular, Fluid so you need to stay on top of that...

Best of luck.

Agree with @Biddy zz go see the doc ASAP and document what’s going on.

You should probably check for ulcers too. I've had one and it causes those symptoms among others.

It’s also the beginning of flu season AND in some parts of the country (like here) The Back To School Plague season!
Hope you feel better soon.

that's what I was going to say, too - it could just be norovirus. But I'd probably call just in case - esp if it doesn't clear up on its own in a day or two.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
