two weeks post-op I was finally give the OK to move to soft foods. My first meal was refried Beans with melted cheese and it was very good! Made some eggs in the pressure cooker last night and was barely able to finish one egg, so now getting used to the very small portions. My wife bought a chicken of the Sea "infusions" tuna which has olive oil and basil. Half way through my pouch said I'm full and this thing is only 2.8 oz, hardly enough to make a sandwich one month ago.....so this will take some adjustments.

Any good meals others are relaying on? I may try some Keto egg cups as a Breakfast.

Hey everyone,

Had my surgery on the 29th. Everything went fine in surgery. I had a lot of pain at first that they squelched w good drugs. When I tried to drink the next day, I was met w much dry heaving, which is worth than actually throwing up. Being in the hospital is AWFUL because they will not leave you alone so you can't get any rest. Because of my dry heaving I had to stay in the hospital two nights. Since I have left the hospital, I have only dry heaved once, thank goodness. I did get meds for nausea which seem to help.

I still feel pretty awful and don't think I will get to work tomorrow. I was able to sleep last night for the first time since Wednesday. I guess my questions is - when do the gas pains go away and when do you start to feel somewhat normal again? I feel like a walking zombie and it's making me depressed.

Thanks all. Hope you're doing well.

My gas pains went away after four or five days. Feeling normal is a loose term as everyone is different and adjusting to liquid only took another two weeks. Once on solids you adjust to what you can and can’t eat. Three weeks post op I’d say normal but still feel woozy occasionally. I took two weeks off work to and worked from home the second week. Hope you feel better!

I thought a positive Celiac Diagnosis disqualified you for surgery in 2012? And for good reason.....its simple. Our small intestine is long and each piece along the way has a different 'job' in our health. The very first part of our small intestine is the part that does most of the nutritional absorption. It also is the strongest and heatiest part of the organ. RNY moves a good share of the stomach AND the first part of the small intestine aside - creating 'mal absorption' trickling down to weight loss (quickly)......You have just disabled the strongest part of your small intestine and relying on the weaker parts to hopefully take nutrition from your food - but you will have to no doubt take supplements as your body no longer can to the full job. Celiac is a biologic reaction to Gluten. Some will tell you only injestion - I can tell you I have reacted standing in the bread isle too long at the market! This reaction kills the lil 'fingers' in your small intestine that pull the nutrition from the food back into your system....they are the working mechanism of the organ and Celiac crippled and kills them.....no fingers ....means crappin yourself on a regular basis, belly pain, bloating and lets not forget the RASH!. Once you eliminate Gluten from your diet - the fingers have a good chance of growing back - but no guarantee - crippling you more nutritionally.....so lets talk about this lil RASH....Dermatitis Herpetiformis - Durhings Disease - aka Gluten Rash. Gluten causes leisons inside your small intestine. Gluten RASH causes the same leisons ON YOUR SKIN! Its like shingles on crack times infinity. All of this is genetic - so genetic and blood testing is key - and its also crappy on your blood. Be SURE you are taking your Iron and get that checked often.

I am 12 years out... have maintained my 200+ pound weight loss - my ONLY side effect from my RNY is Post RNY HypoGlycemia - and Celiac and DH has significantly worsened The specialist have all told me that if I had not done the RNY = I would not be suffering as I am now. My weight loss was significant and rewarding - I cannot say if I would do it all again - all I do know is this is on a 3 year flare and Im 2 yrs gluten free now and Im more miserable than ever. I just joined this groun and was so hoping you did not go thru with the surgery. Stay informed - Gluten Free is NOT always Gluten Free (Mission Tortilla's - GF are NOT)...read labels more...its not just bread - if you are reacting - iodine will make it worse...salts and such....Life as a Celiac disorder is not kewl - but made worse by irreversable surgery is sad. Good Luck - sorry Im so wordy

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
