2 days post-op and dealing with post nasal drip

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I had my surgery two days ago and now I'm dealing with a stuffy nose and sore throat. I'm not sure if they're from the surgery itself or I have allergies. I'm having bad post nasal drip when i lay down and it feels like me entire stomach/chest is filled with mucus. Anyone else experience this?

I did.. but I went into surgery with it. Are you on a PPI? I found that once I started taking mine it lessened quite a bit

I had post-nasal drip. I believe it was a side effect from the anesthesia. I didn’t have it when I went in, but when I came out I did. Also the nasal tube of oxygen was such dry air that it gave me lots of nose gold. I got through it and didn’t even notice when it went away - probably after three or four days without allergy pills (I couldn’t take pills until day four... I was in the hospital for three days and two nights).

I do have asthma and I also often have sinus blockage so I’ll bet it was all draining due to the cold temperatures and oxygen tube.

You're not crazy and some random one off.

Thank you for the info! The stuffed nose is bothering me more than not being able to eat what I want. It's scary feeling like I cant breathe normally after surgery.

I felt the same as if I had allergies. I think it’s a combo of the anesthesia and the tube they place down your esophagus. It’s a terrible feeling. My nose was so stuffy that after blowing it I had a nosebleed.

Yeah, it's a really horrible feeling. I have so much phlegm caught in my chest but everytime I cough it feels like my insides are falling out

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
