November Bypass?

Recommended Posts

I’m scheduled for my surgery November 7th, and it’s starting to feel real. I’m having a lap band to bypass revision and only taking one week off from work (nine days counting the weekend). A little worried about just a week.

Anyone else in November?

I was a Band to Bypass revision. A week is pretty short, and my surgery was SUPER easy... and even still, a week would not have been enough time to be comfortable going back to work. I'd highly suggest getting more time if you can.

I'm scheduled for Nov 19, and nervous as well!

I’ll keep the option open to half days on Wed/Thu/Fri. I have a desk job so hopefully it will be o.k.

Mombod: Starting to prepare for the pre-op diet. I’ll do low carb/low fat for two weeks then three days before switch to Clear Liquids. Had my blood and stress test yesterday. I just want Nov 7th to be here!

I’m only telling a few family members and am trying to figure out how to navigate the secrecy. Kind of strange.

My doctor isn't having me do clear liquids at all pre-op. He said I have to do a week of Protein Shakes and lean cuisines, which is kinda strange I thought.

I scheduled my surgery today for November 13. That will give me the rest of that week and Thanksgiving week to recover.

That’s great. I tried for that date but couldn’t get it. 30 days until surgery so getting excited! Starting low carb low fat tomorrow. Just want it to be here.

November 5th for me!

I'm terrified, but started drinking the Premier Protein shakes and Greek yogurts for Breakfast and lunch about 3 weeks ago. I'm happy that those, to me, are incredibly filling...which makes me a little worried about how hard it will be to force down anything once our stomachs are tiny :/

November 5, you’ll go in two days before me. I started my low carb low fat this weekend. You’ve been on yours for three weeks, that’s great. Your body will be ready for it. I go to liquids on November 1 then surgery on the 7th. I can’t wait. I really want to make this work.

I can’t figure out how to change my surgery/height/weight. It’s from when I had my lap band in 2011, it’s very old!

Good luck to you and glad to have people going through this together!

My surgery is November 1st. I don't have to do clear liquids either. I do 3 shakes a day and one Healthy Choice/Lean Cuisine for 15 days prior. I start that on October 16th. Not complaining! lol.

My date was scheduled for Oct. 8 but I had to reschedule until Nov 9 because of my father in laws passing. I just didn’t feel I could focus on this 100% at the time. I am ready for this Nov surgery.

So sorry about your father in law. November 9th is around the corner. I’ll be coming home as you go in and I can give you the download. I’m trying out different Vitamins to try out. I bought the berimelts but think they might be too sweet. I want to do the Patches but my nutritionist advised against it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
