Yikes, you guys! This large left port site is really uncomfortable. Walking is so hard and I have to do it as often as possible. I can barely keep my pain medication down and anything much large than that is a no go. Intellectually, I know this will pass but could you guys, who have gone through it, reassure me? I’m feeling pretty rotten right now.

Hi @bettie.blue it definitely gets better sweetie, I felt the same way in the hospital, when the nurse first asked me to walk after surgery I was thinking to my self “is she kidding” lol although everyone on here has repeatedly said they get you up to walk right away, but I wanted to get better so just focus on that getting better, as the days ho by you will feel better and better...I’m 5 weeks post op today and I feel really good and you will to. I wish you the best. We’re here for you 😊🌺🌺

The port with pain is where your stomach came out. It will take a good week to two for it to no longer be sore.

Try crushing your pills in the first couple of weeks and take with applesauce. It worked great for me.

Just remember, walking is good... even when you don't want to, just do it. It will help you heal faster.

Good luck, you've got this

I was there and could get it together. I would barely walk. Day three for me was so much better. I was able to walk and move around although swallowing was challenging. For the first two days I had extreme nausea so couldn’t take oral pills well, but when it clicked, it clicked.

Tips:

- try colder Water (iced), room temp made me nauseous (still do);

- try sleeping on your left side. Doing this helped me move gas

- have hot tea; changed how I felt immediately

I felt terrible and was in surprisingly worse shape than anyone expected in the hospital, but today is 10 days out and I feel pretty good.

Good luck friend. @me if you need to chat.

Feeling much improved @MargoCL. Those first couple of days are no joke though, especially at night when I only had my thoughts for company. 😣

I bet. I had a small decorative pillow as my best friend for the first two weeks. It was there when I got up, turned in sleep, or whatever.

Glad to hear it's much improved... it does get easier...

@Spellbound the tea helped so much! Thank you! I can’t sleep on my side yet but am looking forward to not being flat on my back when I sleep. I hope you’re still feeling well!

I did my sleeve outpatient and I was hurting those first couple days. It basically felt like I had shredded my abs by doing thousands of sit-ups. The drain was very uncomfortable and caused some pain, I started to feel better once the drain was out. It is definitely not an easy surgery to have, but I don’t regret having it done.
Glad you are feeling better, it will continue to get easier.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
